Thanks memccart! That was so neat of your friend - and a great job done. You can be the official food provider of the HP fandom if you like. You get to wear a cute chef's hat and some sort of funky apron! We're creating a whole little world of fans here!

I think I might have to pass that role on to the friend who created the cake - I'm a wreck in the kitchen. But I'll help eat.

Hurray!!! We are building up our own little HP fan army! Now to be a good girl and to stay on topic, i will ask you this question: pick your fav opening and ending of any of the books. (it can be an opening from one and an ending from another) Myself i pick GOF/HP4 as my fav opening because i personally found that whole Riddle House scene chilling.. although it is followed very closely by PS/SS because i love how Jo gave us a seemingly irrelevant backstory with the Dursleys before even mentioning Haz. Fav ending is harder to define, primarily because there's never anything entirely conclusive about them, but the idea of the Order standing there to wave Haz off after the battle at the MOM was very sweet, so perhaps OOTP.

Favorite ending would be GOF because it was so bittersweet closely followed by OOTP I didn't want to let go... I felt so bad for Harry!!!! I especially loved it when Moody went up to Vernon and basically said if u bother Harry i'm going to kick ur a**

My favourite beginning was HP4 - I'm still haunted by the whole Riddle House scene!

Well, great minds do think alike, Jefie! *wink wink* I also just love how Jo provides a history to the house (which does have some significance later), it's surrounding town, and to Frank (bless him) in the style of a Christie mystery... but then we never return there ever again... i felt the same sort of satisfied misdirection (the best term i can think to use, though it's not entirely correct) with the opening of PS/SS - we see an entire day in Vernon Dersley's life before we even begin to grasp why we are focusing on him - and indeed learn that in fact, we are NOT focusing on him! It's bloody brilliant, to use movie-Ron's words. To a certain extent, i guess this was done in book 6 aswell, with the 'other' Prime Minister, athough that set-up had a more obvious destination.

Yeah, I also liked the opening of HP6, it makes me wish there had been more interaction between the muggle Prime Minister and the wizarding community...

Yes, i think Muggles are understated in the books, from the POV of the wizarding community. It's not fair, especially in light of what we learn is happening in the opening of book 6, to keep them out of the loop, and to deny their intelligence to such an extreme. Hermione and Harry both began their lives as Muggles, or at least in a Muggle environment and they accepted the magical world presented to them just fine - i think it's time for wizards to anticipate more from the ordinary people. Yes, history has shown significant prejudice against and fear of anything that is different or inexplicable, but if in book 7 as is shown in 6, the baddies are attacking on all fronts without discrimination against wizards or Muggles alike as their victims, then things really need to be rectified on a world-wide scale, and there's going to have to be some serious melding of the 'mundane' and the magical in order to fully fight the fight. There - that's my somewhat off-topic rant for the day! Another question for y'all: best moment/signifiying moment in each book??? For me there's: Book 1 - the Mirror Erised chapter. Very moving Book 2 - Tom Riddle's monolgue in the Chamber; eps. the I AM VOLDEMORT moment = CHILLS! Book 3 - any time spent with Lupin, esp. when talking of Dementors, and the 'what you fear the most is fear itself' line Book 4 - obviously the entire graveyard sequence (and my R/H sipper self says the big Ron and Hermy fight after the ball, hehe) Book 5 - DD vs. Voldy BOOYEH! And Haz's meltdown (makes me tear up every time) Book 6 - from the cave, with DD and the potion and the bloomin' fake Horcrux, through to the Tower (farewell, wise man with white beard)

That's a good question neh! I have to think about that... and I really need to reread HP books! To answer an old question: it's hard to choose a favorite opening, I like when book starts with Muggles (so HP1, HP4 or HP6)..I'll go for HP6. I loved when Harry spent time at Wesley's, but it's not exactly at the beginning of a book. My favorite ending is HP3...I really miss Sirius. Although I also liked the sort of open ending of book 4th, it's great.

For me the best has been the third one, i think it has so much better adventures and the story is the best, the transition of the characters from the second book to the third was great, beside the Sirius Black story was amazing. The fourth was good too, but not that good as the third, the fifth one also is my favorite. But the sixth one for me was awful, i mean in the fifth one Harry was hated by almost everyone and his luck with girls was horrible, everyone treated him so different, but in the sixth was loved by all Hogwarts and was the heroe, that story seemed so stupid, and Hermione crying for a boy, that's not the Hermione that i love.

Speaking of Hermione, how does everyone feel about her getting together with Ron and about the Harry-Ginny relationship?

Speaking of Hermione, how does everyone feel about her getting together with Ron and about the Harry-Ginny relationship? I was kind of surprise when Harry and Ginny get together, i mean for me it was precipitated, first of all in the books before Ginny was just Ron's little sister and Harry didn't show any interest in her and suddenly he loves her, that story just seem to me stupid, i don't wanna ofense anybody, is just what i think. About Ron and Hermione- as Dean said once- it's so damn obvious, Ron is so inmature, i hope he grow up because i think that's the only way of a Hermione- Ron relationship works
