I checked my copies and they were written by Laura Ingalls Wilder, but it was renewed by Roger Lea McBride in 1963. Okay, thanx!

As a little girl i used to love Roald Dahl, in fact i still do. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was one of those books that propelled me into reading something other than the mediocre series books i.e Baby-sitters Club. I've read most of Dahl's works. He was just amazing!!!

If you like complex children's lit with a nod towards magical realism then give David Almond's books a try. I was bowled over by his work, his finest novel being 'Clay'

You know what else is good... Gail Carson Levine's books. I read Ella Enchanted in the 5th grade and fell in love with it. I think it's still one of my favorite books of all time. I was devestated when they made that HORRIBLE movie about it , it was not even close to the plot of the book and the acting SUCKED so bad... I hate movies about books when they don't even come close to what the book is about. You might as well not credit the author. It's SABOTAGE!! I tell you.
o.k I'm done ranting. Bye

I read Ella Enchanted in the 5th grade too. I also hated the movie and only watched it because my younger sister wanted to.

My favorite was the Nancy Drew series. I still read them sometimes when I'm too tired to read anything heavier. lol. A guilty pleasure of mine.

I didn't know where to put this, so I choose this thread. I just read that Swedish author Maria Gripe is dead. She wrote children books, and I remember reading a lot of her stuff when I was younger. Anyway, in the news it said that her books had been translated to 29 languages so I just figured maybe you knew of her too. So, this is a little RIP post in honor of Maria Gripe.

That's a sad new..I haven't heard of it, so thank you for posting it. I've read 2 books by Maria Gripe when I was younger, one is Agnes Cecilia but I can't remember the other, and I loved her style.

Me too. I remember also loving a series by Joan Dixon about six brothers and sisters that were sent from their mother in New York to the west to get new families. Can't remember the title though, at least not in English, but the books were good! At least I thought so back then...
