I took a children's lit class too, and loved it. It gave me a huge appreciation for kid's books. My mom just went back to school to get her masters in lib science so that she can be a children's librarian, so we talk about kid's lit all the time. We also had a goal this summer to each read all the caldecott winners, which was very fun. (and a little nerdy too, I'll admit!)
My favorites: picture books: zen shorts, one fish two fish red fish blue fist, sector 7, where the wild things are, eloise (all of them), and the lonely doll.
chapter books: the phantom tollbooth, from the mixed up file of mrs. basil e. frankweiler, the ramona books, the wayside school books, bud not buddy, criss cross, the giver, and a wrinkle in time,

It's VERY good, I definitely recommend it...a very fast read too. It's about a boy named Milo who is very listless and unhappy. He doesn't want to learn anything because he thinks there's no point. One day a tollbooth shows up in his room and he's transported to a world of crazy things and characters. The book is full of humor, lessons, and symbols. It's very original. Here's a link to a fan page, if you click on Excerpts on the left menu bar, you can read some portions of the book. www.lpl.arizona.edu/~bcohen/phantom_tollbooth/

What's Wishborn? I've never heard of it. I will always love the Velveteen Rabbit. I need to find my copy of that; I think it's out of print. I hate when they do that. When I got older I used to read the Babysitter's Club and the Thoroughbred series.

Wishbone was a little Jack Russell dog, who got into character and went into imaginary worlds (book settings). He brought you through all these classic stories. It was great!

I only thought it was "Wishborn" because that's what someone on the first page called it.

I liked (and still like) Charlie and the chocolate factory, all novels by Astrid Lindgren (they are very popular in Germany), Heidi. My grandmother and I used to read "Dick und Dalli und die Ponys", it's great, but I really don't know the english name.

I liked the first few books, and the last one, but the middle ones just didn't do it for me.
