Yes they are; the Brothers Grimm certainly lived up to their last name. Little Red Riding Hood was a cautionary tale against pedophelia... and Cinderella's sisters got their eyes pecked out and their toes and heels cut off! Sheesh! People criticised Disney for sugar-coating the tales but - apart from in Sondheim's "Into the Woods" and Roal Dahl's (or however his name is spelt parodies where it is admittedly funny - do we really want to SEE that stuff happen?! I hope not!

lol reading your Mommy Where Are You? book reminded me of Are You My Mother? by PD Eastman ...i think...i love that book! its so cute! ooo and Go Dog Go is pretty good too.

As a kid I really liked reading stories by the Comtesse de Ségur, but I don't think these books have aged really well...

As a kid my favorite book was Shiloh. I remember reading the Pigman too but it wasn't as good as Shiloh. Yeah that's about the only book I liked as a kid.
