How many of you guys are going to go to a Harry Potter Party at the bookstore the night it comes out?!?!?! i am soo already there! I definitely am. I'm flying home to Michigan to go to the party with my Mom. We've gone to the last two parties together, and we always have so much fun. She has already reserved two copies of the book for us to pick up that night.

i think that in a portkey you are only allowed to tell the destination and from then on, unless changed magically, it will take you to ur destination and then back if u wish to do so.
If Harry lives i think he will become an Auror. J.K already ruled out the fact that he will become a teacher...that job is reserved for one of the trio. She didn't mention which one
i'll probably go to my bookstores premiere party. this is so bad but i have yet to reserve my copy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I reserved a copy, but I probably won't go by myself at midnight (since I haven't found anyone out here who is that into HP). I made sure that I did it a Borders that opens at 8 so I can go first thing in the morning. I went at midnight last time and it was kind of lame.

Coz of the time differences, our release is at 9 in the morning - i'm guessing.. it was for book. (it's the the same time as everyone else obviously, just different... if that makes sense at all!) I'd love to boogie on down at a party but i don't know of any that are occurring... i do however intend to purchase a house scarf online to wear with my Hogwarts shirt on the day.

If we're going by east coast time, then I think they should let me get my book at 9pm on Friday here.

Hang on... does that mean i'm wrong?? Oh, i don't know!!!! But the past releases have all been 9am here in NSW, Australia... that much i am sure of! And if it's a worldwide release at the one time... then i'm assuming.. oh toddle! I have no idea! All i know is that on the east coast of the US, they're 14 hours behind me at present, and England is about 9 hours behind - so that works for them, having a midnight release as we have our morning release.... oh toddle gosh darn squiddle!!!!!! *me having a meltdown*

We don't have any of those problem here , since bookstore don't sell a great number of HP books in english and the italian edition is usually realesed about 6 months after english one...it's not as important... When I went to bookstore to buy HP 5th I had to wait nearly 30 minutes to pay for it, it seemed like it was Christmas Eve at 5pm instead it was afternoon of 31st October.

The book is scheduled to be released globally in English-speaking countries shortly after midnight 00:01, British Summer Time, on July 21, 2007. However, in the U.S. (which spans several time zones), it is to be released for sale within each time zone at 00:01 local time, a few hours after the other English-speaking countries.[3]
Ok, that's from Wikipedia... and it's sort of clearing things up for me. But it's awful that somehow the laws of international time differences couldn't be magically altered (what could be more apt?!) this one time so that everybody in every bloomin' country could get their hands on this book at the ONE TIME. Fair is fair - we need the Doctor from Doctor Who; afterall, he is a Time Lord, and if i bribed him right, i'm sure he'd help us out (plus, he's currently being played by David Tennant and my goodness, i love that man...) Ahem! Random, futile rant over, i promise!

That's not fair. So all of you get it at one time and I have to wait 3 whole hours. I think I should get it at 9. I guess it makes sense though because then I would get it on the wrong day.

I went to San Francisco for my 21st birthday, and had to wait until midnight the night before to go to the bar - even though in Michigan, where I was coming from and was born and raised, it was 3am. It felt very unfair - hahaha.
But I DO have a Harry Potter question to keep this post on topic. I'm re-reading Order of the Phoenix and I just finished the chapter with Harry's hearing for underage use of magic and it made me think of something fishy. Forgive me if this question is answered later in book 5 or 6 and I just don't remember.
If they are so strict with underage use of magic, and a letter shows up at your house so quickly, why do they not seem to regulate the use of magic by people who did not finish school and never passed their OWLs to become "legal" wizards? IE - Hagrid. There's been several mentions of his "umbrella" which is really his wand. And he has done magic a few times, and it's implied that he does it occasionally. Any info/ideas on why Hagrid can get away with it?

I feel like they're only strict when it suits the story. Because kids in wizarding families must do magic all the time. And I feel like there are little things that the kids do (which I can't think of right now) that they don't get in trouble for.

If I remember correctly, somwhere in HP books they say that ministery can "see" only where and not who do the magic, so why haven't hagrid got a letter when he used his wand/umbrella in 1st book? (When he went to give Harry his letter from Hogwarts) I agree with memccart.

Also, technically when they expelled Hagrid they broke his wand. His umbrella contains only pieces of the wand that he could salvage. But I agree I think small bits of magic by of age wizards is okay than for under-age because they have to set the example....if they let one person go then other people will want to be off easily as well.
