We won't be putting up a new board, but here's the place to discuss the old HP books and share ideas about what might happen in the final volume!

Okay, I was re-reading Harry Potter and here are somethings that caught my interest.
In the beginning of Order of the Phoenix we find out that Dudley has a gang and was hitting a little boy named Mark (i think) Evans. Later on we find out that Lily Potter's maiden name was actually Lily Evans. Coincidence???
The other thing was that when Sirius dies and Harry Potter flips out in Dumbledore's office Dumbledore talks about how in the Dept. of Mysteries there is a room in which there is great power. It was the door that Harry couldn't open and his knife from Sirius melted when he tried to open it with the knife. He said that it was the same power that saved Harry and the power that Voldemort most underestimates. Could this be the place where Voldemort finally meets his end?? Also, since i've been re-reading books 1-5, i was surprised to find so many passages devoted to Professor Bins and his droning lectures about giant wars and especially Goblin Rebellions. Also, Gringotts was mentioned many a time in each book. That got me thinking that Gringotts and Goblins will have a major part in Book 7 especially when I saw the UK cover which shows Harry, Hermione, and Rupert coming in? or being sucked out? of what looks like a vault full of gold and jewels. Of course it might be something else. What do u guys think it is???

First, I have to say that I've read the italian editions of Harry Potter books and some characters' names have been changed (and I can't really understand why it's an annoying thing) so, if I mention someone you have never heard of..I'm not crazy. I've noticed the boy named Evans in OOTP and I have your same idea, it's hard to believe it's only a coincidence..just because it's not the first time: that reminds me when Jo mentioned Arabella Figg in the 1st book and then made her returns in the story. I haven't thought about that connection to Gringott and the cover of HP 7th, it's an interesting concept...

As it's explain in the first page of each HP books, they changed some names to gives the same idea/meaning they have in english (personally I'm not sure it's a good choiche... but probably they did that because it's a children book) - Albus Silente (Albus Dumbledore)
- Minerva McGranitt (Minerva McGonagall)
- Filius Vitious (Filius Flitwick)
- Severus Piton (Severus Snape)
- Horace Lumacorno (Horace Slughorn)
- Pomona Sprite (Pomona Sprout)
- Professor Raptor (Professor Quirrell)
- Gilderoy Allock (Gilderoy Lockhart)
- Alastor Malocchio Moody (Alastor Mad-Eye Moody)
- Professor Rüf (Professor Binns)
- Fiorenzo (Firenze)
- Prof.ssa Caporal (Professor Wilhemina Grubbly–Plank)
- Sibilla Cooman (Sybill Trelawney)
- Madama Bumb (Madame Rolanda Hooch)
- Argus Gazza (Argus Filch)
- Madama Chips (Madame Poppy Pomfrey)
- Neville Paciock (Neville Longbottom)
- Lavanda Brown (Lavender Brown)
- Calì Patil (Parvati Patil)
- Colin e Dennis Canon (Colin and Dennis Creevey)
- Oliver Baston (Oliver Wood)
- Vincent Tiger (Vincent Crabbe)
- Peter Minus (Peter Pettigrew)
- Ninfadora Tonks (Nymphadora Tonks) - well, thst's italianized, not properly changed (they did the same with Hedwig)
- Dedalus Lux (Dedalus Diggle)
- Cornelius Caramell (Cornelius Fudge)
Hogwarts founders: - Godric Grifondoro (Godric Gryffindor)
- Tosca Tassorosso (Helga Hufflepuff)
- Cosetta Corvonero (Rowena Ravenclaw)
- Salazar Serpeverde (Salazar Slytherin)
Of course: Tom Orvoloson Riddle (Tom Marvolo Riddle) because they have to translate "I am Lord Voldemort" into italian. and nicknames of ghosts

That would be TOO crazy! We have such a strange need to translate/dubb every book/movie into italian (I love DVDs because I can choose to watch a movie in original language with subtitles)
To stay on topic: I've heard JKR saying that it's important to the story that Harry has his mother's eyes (though I can't remember WHERE I've read it), have you ever heard anything about it? I was wondering if it is referred only to HBP, when harry has to obtain the full memory of Riddle's question about Horcruxes from Slughorn, or if there will be something else in future. What do you think of this?

I read that as well!! Many a time actually. I think she has been saying that Harry having his mother's eyes has been a vital aspect of the book since book 4. I rememeber her talking about it in an interview before even HP5 came out!! I was reading HP5 and in the Pensieve scene when Harry sees his father as a young show-off sixteen year-old it said that he looked exactly like his father except his dad had hazel eyes and his nose was slightly longer. With Lily we know that he obtained his green eyes. So far i don't think rowling has revealed to us why harry having his mum's eyes is so significant unless it's a way of showing their bond together. So far it seems that James has a closer both physical and mental bond to Harry. Both are brave, noble, they look alike, they fight for what they believe in. We haven't heard much about Lily other than the fact that it was her love that saved harry from Voldemort. By the way, interesting tidbit. In an Interview, Rowling revealed that it was only Lily's love that could've protected Harry not James.

There are also many theories going around that Lily might be an Unspeakable in the Dept of Mysteries, Rowling had stated that Lily would play a vital role in the HP Books, we really haven't seen that. There is also speculation that she is an alchemist, good at Potions and Charms. This might be out of the blue but do u think that there was a love thing between Snape and Lily Potter?? Did he love her? Is that why he can't stand James or Harry?? I'm sorry I can't really talk about HP6. I honestly can't remember any of it!!!! I have to reread it! What do you think

In an Interview, Rowling revealed that it was only Lily's love that could've protected Harry not James. I haven't heard of that, it's interesting...Do you have any ideas of the reason?? I've read something about this theory of Snape loving Lily and I can't say...it was justified by many points and I can't surely contradict it although it still sounds a little weird to me. Lily had saved Harry's life and provided him a great defence so it can be said that she already had an important role in the books (would have Harry survived at the end of the 1st book if Voldemort could touch him?) but I don't really think that's all, just because we don't know very much about her. Harry decided to go to Godric's Hollow at the end of book 6th, hope he will find out more about his parents, I'm so curios. (Jo said there will be more details about Lily in the final book). Is it true that, when Jo was asked if there was someone else at Godric's Hollow the night Harry's parents died, she answered: "No comment"??

Oh shoot!! Well thanks. I thought it was a pretty good theory but alas!!! What names did they change lu? Wikipedia doesn't know everything - you could still be right. I thought it was a good idea. As for the Snape-Lily thing, I think it's very possible that Snape was in love with Lily, but I don't think anything actually happened. I also think Harry's eyes and Lily will be important in the 7th book. I don't think that we've seen enough to justify it playing a big role yet. I'm currently reading the 3rd book, so I'm a little behind on my reread, but I'll add anything that I think of.
