My resolution is to be smarter. Read the Paper and stuff. I don't know- I'm great with schoolwork but when it comes to current events and stuff- im still reading about something that happened 500 years ago and I can't keep up. So yeah- resolution- Smart

I know the feeling, I'm supposed to keep up with current events since I'm doing journalism but after awhile it gets hard. There's too much news content to be up to date with everything and sometimes life is just too chaotic to spend an hour scouring papers every day But I share this resolution.

In regards to staying more up to date with the news: After I set up my personalized Google Homepage I was WAY more up to date with what's going on in the world. You can set up Google for yourself and your own preferences, and then log in and it's all right there on one page. You can select different news sources, and their top headlines will be listed. Just reading the headlines gives you a quick overview of what's going on, and then you can click on anything of interest to read more. In total, I probably have about 6 or 7 new sources displayed, as well as the general "top stories." I also have rss feeds from about 10+ blogs on there, which also helps me keep up to date with the news. It's also been a lot easier to stay up to date with world news since I graduated from college. I have more time now, and also can read news online at work.

yeah I've been doing some work for a local newspaper, originally work experience but became occassional paid work. And I just lined up some experience on a local radio's community switch board for the week after next so hopefully I'll get somewhere with journalism eventually

I have google homepage, and I love it! I'm trying so hard not to buy any books until I read some that are on my shelves. I have so many... I definitely have the same problem. But then I see so many good deals....new hardcovers I can get for 40% off at barnes and noble, used books at the Library book sales, and cheap cheap books at Strand (like the hardcover of 'Tis for $4). It's hard to not get things when you can get an amazing deal. I guess I'm just going to try to not go to bookstores as much, which is really sad, because I absolutely love browsing around book stores. I'm also trying to read a ton to catch up. My goal is to read 52 books this year.

See, I'm torn. The bookstore in town is closing and so I don't know if I should stock up or if I should still just try to stay with the books I have. I mean, I used library books all the time before so that isn't so hard to do again, is it?

I think if you get a good deal it doesn't count. You don't want to wait and then buy the book for more after... lol that's my theory.

I have picked 6 books to get from the store before it closes. Actually I'll have to have them order it because it's a small branch (which may be why they're closing). All together it's about $75 so I think that's fair. My paychecks have increased because minimum wage increased, and so I think once for $75 isn't much since books were usually what I bought anyways and now I'll save more money.
