I would have liked her to actually say some things to Harry, to come clean on her connections with the magical world in the past, like it was suggested she was tempted to do before they left.... but alas. Ideally i would have also have loved the final Haz/Voldy battle to have played out in the 'Love Room' at the DOM, but i guess i'm not the author, hehe!

I always expected something a bit more to happen with Petunia's character to be honest, I always thought her role might expand a bit more than what it actually did in the last book. Me too, she didn't expand in the past books and i thought something was gonna happen with her in this book. I imagine that Harry wasn't going to die, and as many people i know i thought Neville was going to die too, i liked the book, but for me isn't the best of the saga, of course is in my top three, but because is the end i guess i expected something more. I was more sad because Hedwing's death than Moody's i feel bad for Lupin and Tonks, but if nobody's would die then this wouldn't be the end of Harry Potter.

By my count there were 12 people total that die, if you include Hedwig and Dobby. So which 2 were the 2 that everybody was predicting to die? I mean, one is probably Voldemort, but for the good guys, there were four that died. It just confused me a bit...

I don't think that she meant that only two would die. She just said that two people who were going to live died. We knew there would be more than two deaths.

Yes she corrected everyone's misinterpretation of that quote when she was on the Jonathan Ross show: she said "people have taken that to mean that only 2 people die and that's not true - it's a bloodbath". I think that speaks for itself, hehe. Afterall, it's the final countdown and it's war - there's gonna be lots of cruel casualties. Speaking of Jo chatting about book 7, here's a link to the first part of a detailed interview Jo did for Dateline - you learn exactly WHO got the repreive and WHO were the two characters that took that persons place... and i have to say, the truth made me very annoyed - only because one of said doomed was on of my FAVOURITES: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cyt8pgR5XPI

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I figured I was just misinterpreting her words.
I found an article on CNN.com about some of the main characters and what happened after the book ended. JK told of their lives:
"Rowling said the world was a sunnier, happier place after the seventh book and the death of Voldemort.
Harry Potter, who always voiced a desire to become an Auror, or someone who fights dark wizards, was named head of the Auror Department under the new wizarding government headed by his friend and ally, Kingsley Shacklebolt.
His wife, Ginny Weasley, stuck with her athletic career, playing for the Holyhead Harpies, the all-female Quidditch team. Eventually, Ginny left the team to raise their three children -- James, Albus and Lily -- while writing as the senior Quidditch correspondent for the wizarding newspaper, the Daily Prophet.
Harry's best friend Ron Weasley joined his brother, George, as a partner at their successful joke shop, Weasley's Wizard Wheezes. Hermione Granger, Ron's wife and the third person of the series' dark wizard fighting trio, furthered the rights of subjugated creatures, such as house elves, in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures before joining the magical law enforcement squad. The couple had two children -- Rose and Hugo.
Luna Lovegood, Harry's airily distracted friend with a love for imaginary animals who joins the fight against Voldemort in the Order of the Phoenix, becomes a famous wizarding naturalist who eventually marries the grandson of Newt Scamander, author of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them."
And what Muggle, or non-wizard, song would have been played at the funeral of Albus Dumbledore, the most brilliant and talented wizard the world had ever known?
"Surely 'I Did It My Way' by Frank Sinatra," Rowling told her fans, referring to the song "My Way," written by Paul Anka but popularized by Sinatra, among other singers."

But didn't JK say that Ron had become an auror like Harry?

I don't know. This is the first article I've seen about anything JK said happened after the book ended. She might've said it in another interview, but I'm not sure.

i've just found out that yesterday jk rowling was in a chatroom where she answered to questions made by the fans about what happened after the last book, i found the whole transcript in this website: www.harrypotterfanzone.comshe explained in a recent interview that she couldn't write everything that happened to every single character after the last book but she knew all these things and she wanted to answer to the fans' doubts...

Yeah, earlier she had said that Ron was an auror (I think that I posted the link at some point). I think I like it better that he works at the joke shop, though.

I'd much rather see him become an auror, seems like a waste of talent otherwise... and no matter how hard I try, I can't picture Hermione getting married to someone who works at a joke shop!
But what about that part:
"Snapedinhalf: You promised that someone will do magic late in life in book 7. I've now read it three times but cant work out who it might have been! Please help!!
J.K. Rowling: I'm sorry about this, but I changed my mind!
J.K. Rowling: My very earliest plan for the story involved somebody managing to get to Hogwarts when they had never done magic before, but I had changed my mind by the time I'd written the third book."
Do you think she might have been thinking about Petunia?

Ooo, that would've been interesting. I did feel a bit let down that Petunia didn't get more developed as a character.

That would have been interesting. Do you think she would have been allowed to go to Hogwarts and been able to do magic but reject it in the end?
I'm a little confused about the letter from Dumbledore, too. Did it say that she could go to Hogwarts or not. I thought not, but other people thought that it said she could go but that she got so mad at Lily and Snape for reading it that she chose not to. Maybe I need to re-read that part.

I thought the letter said she couldn't AND she was mad at Lily and Snape for reading it, as it would be a rather embarassing fact for her to have known. And memcarrt, what you said about her going to Hogwarts and then deciding to deny her magical abilities - that's exactly what i had thought was the go with Petunia, but sadly no. And Jefie, i agree with you on Ron - as much as i think fun and humor is very important to boost morale and whatnot and i love that Fred and George started their joke shop, i think Ron would have felt more at home in working as an Auror, and Hermy would certainly have accepted that more easily - unless she really loosened up in her old age, hehe! Coz it's true, in an interview Jo said "Ron and Harry revoluntionize the Auror department" - so i'm utterly confused! Mabye Ron works two jobs?! Luna's job screams PERFECT but there's still that part of me that wishes she had been with Neville, especially coz i loathe the idea of all the teachers at Hogwarts being single! Ginny's job sounds perfect for her also - go kick arse Gin!
