I was wondering if anyone ever read Atonement (or any other book) by Ian McEwan. What did you think?
I am in a constant battle with myself wether to buy and read it or not. it is in some way appealing, but I read the cement garden by him and it was a bit weird.
I'm stuck. Help. Please.

I've never read it, but it must have been really popular at some point because it is EVERYWHERE. You should be able to get it cheap second hand without too many problems.

This book seems to be getting more hype now that the movie is about to come out. Has anyone read it?? And did anyone really enjoy it?

Nope, still haven't read it. I did read "Amsterdam" a few weeks ago and I really enjoyed it, it made me want to read his other novels.

I really love this novel, it's one of my favorite books and McEwan is definitely one of my favorite writers, I've discovered him recently and I'm sorry about it!!! Some of his novels are a bit weird and macabre (like "The Cement Garden) but"Atonement"is a great book, I heard of people complaining that it was a little bit slow at the beginning...perhaps it is but I was really taken from the beginning (and after it gets faster don't worry!), this is the kind of novel in which the reader really manage to enter inside the characters
Unfortunately I didn't get to see the movie (here it was in cinemas in September and I was so busy with my exams!) and I'm really sorry about it so I'm already waiting for the DVD!!

I've owned Atonement for a few months now, but just started it a few days ago. I like it so far.

I have been planning to read this one for about 4/5 years now - and with the film's release getting closer and closer, i'm even more tempted... but it's got a large TBR pile to join! The film, i hear, is meant to be excellent.
