in my biology class we spent two days talking about how humans are messing up the earth. it's so scary. we watched a little bit of an inconvenient truth and a bunch of little clips called one degree off of the internet. we also talked about the earth's carrying capacity and how fast the population is increasing. he said that once we go over our carrying capacity, we're basically screwed. because if you go over too much, you run out of resources and we'll become extinct. it's scary though because no one knows what the earth's carrying capacity is. scary stuff...

Creepy! You don´t have to worry about Germans though, apparently we´re goingt to die out anyway. Because women are all selfish career-orientated you-know-whats and don´t want to procreate.

It will come to a point where people will realize and become active about the problem. I know in Quebec we are apparently doing really well with Kyoto, of course not great but doing well compared to other provinces and the U.S.

Well, I´m worried. I mean, I don´t get how anyone couldn´t be after the weather we´ve been having. I agree. The trees are blossoming here, there are wasps...

Has anyone here seen An Inconvenient Truth? It's pretty popular in the US, but I'm not sure about other places... It's incredibly eye-opening, and extremely important to watch. I recommend it if it's available. It came out on DVD here in November. AIT is a popular film here too and people like Al Gore a lot. We seem to be a bit more clued into green issues in the UK, but not as much as some other European countries.

I was having a look at the newspaper online and I read a title about climate, it was written in italian and sounds like: Climate, Earth to the catastrophe. It was about an ONU report on global warming. Then there were some comments about our situation in Italy: the whole Mediterraneo area is in risk of desertification. We actually must change... hope everyone understand that now.

It was last year (the winter of 2005-06) that it was still in the 60sF into December and it got really cold, then really warm for a while, and freezing again. There was a rumour going around that the trees weren't going to blossom because they started early when it got so nice out and when it got cold again something happened to them. That didn't happen, but it scared me. Overpopulation scares me too, and I just wait for the time when all the countries have a one-child per family rule like China. Only we hopefully won't be as stupid and kill the girls.

I remember that whole warm weather, freezing weather, warm weather thing last year. All of the mosquitos died because the hatched and then froze and we didn't have any all summer - not that I'm complaining about a lack of mosquito bites, but it's got to mess up the food chain, right?
I still need to get around to watching An Inconvenient Truth - I've been meaning to for a long time. One of my professors refuses to watch it b/c she says that she is scared enough of global warming and she doesn't want to be more scared (she sounds dumb by that description, but she's actually brilliant - clerked for the Supreme Court and everything). But I think it is good to scare people about global warming.
We talked about renewable energy all last week in my transnational law class (different professor) and it was very interesting. I was never all that into environmental issues, but I think I might start looking into it.

Your class sounds interesting I think people are starting to realize that global warming is not just something that´ll happen in the distant future , like the sun dying, but that it´s very real and happening right now. I can remember times when I wasn´t interested in politics because they were boring and I didn´t understand half of what they were saying, but you really can´t help but be interested since it´s ruling your life. I find it pretty scary how people can say they´re not interested in politics and stuff like that.

I agree with you, dorothy. I've always been pretty interested in politics even if I know and see that there are lot of things that should be very very different, I can't help being interested because, you're absolutely right, it is ruling everyone's life.
Class about renewable energy, it's so interesting!

For my Environmental Sciences class, we have to do these debates on issues and one we could choose from is global warming. Unfortunately, I was one of the last people to sign up so I signed up for "global warming isn't a really big problem and we don't need to do anything" I, obviously, would rather do the pro side, but someone had to do the con side, so it's me and my friends. But I'll still learn about it while preparing so that's good.
