over the past few months i've been trying to keep a book journal, but i'm no disciplined enough... i write about one book, and then forget all about the journal till like 3 months later... it's terrible, but who was i kidding, i was never able to write a diary or anything over a long period of time for that matter...

I totally forgot of my book journal...I haven't written in it for a year and I haven't found a new notebook Now I have a good new year resolution I will restart keeping a book journal! (I feel a bit like Bridget Jones, lol ;D ). I agree Kristie, I tried to keep a diary on my computer when I was 15, but I couldn't. I used to enjoy more writing on a diary with my bestfriend.

I kept diaries consistently from sixth to ninth grade (what's that... 11 to 14?) but I've fallen out of it because it makes me brood and fall into a depression, rather than letting me vent. And I kept a blog for a few years in middle school. I used to be a nerd and was quite handy with HTML But as for book journals (just to stay on topic , I've become addicted to Shelfari within the past few months. I'm excited to be able to look back in a few years at the books I'm reading now.

I keep a notebook that I write down all the books I've read in a year. I also use it as a place to write down books I want to get but might forget the title of.
I agree with Halie, Shelfari is a ton of fun and I like seeing all the books I own visually.

The book journal sounds really cool. I found a notebook that will now become my book journal!

I don't have a book journal, I just review most of the books I read on my blog now. Journaling in general has never been very successful for me.

I have two book journals. The first I have had for six years. I just write down the book name and the author and stars (from one to five). On the other book, which I just started this summer, I write the first sentence of the story, some good quotes and the last sentence. And of course what book it is and who is the author. I am not good at making remarks or writing reviews of books. And I have to say too, that Shelfari is great!

I really want to book journal! But I just always forget. I wish I was more disciplined, because there are many books I've read and I just don't remember all the good points that I wanted to remember!

Recently, I purchased a beautiful Charlotte Bronte inspired journal, and this purchase really inspired me to start keeping a book journal of my own (something which I considered before, but never very seriously). In my journal I wrote down all of the books that I already own, as well as all of those books that are on my wish list (which gets updated frequently). Before I even start reading a novel I write down why I want to read that particular novel. After I finish reading each book I also write half a page or so about each book, including my opinions about that novel, if I identified with a particular character in that novel and why, etc.; I also include quotations and passages from each book I read that really stand out to me. Sometimes I also find out interesting facts about an author's life that I write down in my journal, and I always write down when I started to read a particular book and when I finished reading that book (just for the benefit of my memory so that I remember which books I read in what year and which month). I don't rate the novels that I read, but I only write about those books that I read and enjoyed (otherwise I don't think it's worth my time). Hopefully, I don't loose my inspiration to keep a journal, it's been fun so far and I hope it doesn't ever become a chore because I'm almost certain that if it does become a chore, or something which I feel obliged to do, then I won't bother to continue to keep a journal anymore. Here's a picture of my journal (I love just gazing at it lol): www.jennibick.com/bronte.html
