I'm almost positive that Rowling said that the Sorting Hat was not a horcrux somewhere. Something about horcruxes not bringing attention to themselves by breaking into song. Sorry, Zelda.

Hmmm, ok. I didn't know she said that. I can definitely see how something that has a brain should not be a horcruxe.
But it still bothers me that Dumbledore says that there's only 1 known relic of Godric, the sword. Because the sorting hat definitely was Gryffindor's!
And either way it will be interesting to find out if Tom Riddle did do anything that day in Dumbledore's office.

Ditto (and i'm sorry if i was rude in my rebuttal over the sorting hat Zelda. I didn't mean to knock a theory down so suddenly) Perhaps portrait-DD will be able to offer some sort of new insight from his very handy vantage point on the office wall (of course, i just want him to talk to Haz - a lot! - from the painting, so that we never really have to lose his wisdom and guidance) I'm still concerned about the whole question of removing a soul from a 'horcruxed' object... because if by some small chance Haz or the Hat are Horcruxes, we don't want them destroyed or severely injured... and i have to confess, i'd even feel bad if Nagini was killed in the process... coz she may not be that bad, once Voldy's out of her.... mabye! I tend to automatically pity animals.

Ooh!! Good Point Neh... Do you guys think that it is possible that a living thing could be a Horcrux??? What about Harry?? I was reading Booko 6 and Dumbledore said that Avada Kedavra does not leave any sign of destruction or devestation the only exception was Harry and his scar. So could his scar be the result of a powerful spell that Voldemort had been planning on after he killed the Potters and it rebounded? Another clue, could be the fact that as DD said, Avada Kedavra leaves no signs yet Hagrid in book 1 stated that when he picked up baby Harry the house was in crumbles... Why?? Just putting this out there.. I don't even know if my paraphrasing makes sense but what the heck!

Yes, yes, yes! - the house being a ruin is certainly a sign that something else occurred that night, more than two AV curses and one failed attempt. Haz NEEDS to be asking Hagrid much much more info about that night, and hopefully his trip to Godrics Hollow will provide some info aswell. QUESTION, Haz, question!!!! Put on that Sherlock Homes/Miss Marple cap and get to it, buddy!!!!!!

that's true..Neh. Harry does seem kind of out of it. For example in Book 6 we know that Voldy (Tom Riddle) was obsessed about his past trying to find out as much as he could about his father (whom he presumed was a wizard) and then his mother's the Gaunts. Potter, who seems interested when in conversation or when he finds some particular tidbit does not go out of his way to find out much about his family. Slughorn talks mercifully about Lily but Harry doesn't even question him

I think I'm going to have to re-read at least the latest book before the new one comes out. I've decided this after reading this thread and having very little idea what anyone is talking about I forget easy.

Hehe, it's like my mum when we watch a film together... mabye 3/4 of the way through she will remember that she's already seen it.
I plan to begin my re-reading officially once July commences, thus initiating The Harry Potter month in my mind! PARTY!!!!!!!!!!

We'll be partying like it's 1999 here! I'll have to teach everyone my version of the Hogwarts theme, sung to the tune of "When The Saints Go Marching In". If altered a tad, it works really well - i remember watching the 4th film when they sang their version, scoffing to myself and thinking "Ugh! Mine is far superior than that tosh!" How long does everyone wager it will take them to read the final book and will you emerge from your reading of it to check on how others are responding or can you hold out and wait til you have finished it yourself?? All i know is that it shall be a tense 2 days for me (that's usually how long i take because i do have to have breaks sometimes... food, sanitation and whatnot)

Forgive me for being totally off topic, but today I took this test "Who are you in Harry Potter" and I became Draco Malfoy, an "arrogant son of a b..." as they so nicely called me. That calls for a personality change....

I bought a new shirt for the occasion - It's black and says "I solemnly swear I am up to no good" on the front! I love it!
I'm not sure how long it will take me, because I'll be at home for a rare weekend with the family. My mom will be holed up reading too. Our flight is at 6 am Friday, meaning we have to get up around 3am. So I'm definitely planning on napping friday afternoon, so that I will be alive at the party and can stay up late reading. I'll probably fly through it and try to finish Saturday or Sunday, depending on how much family time there is. Nevertheless - I won't be back in NYC to post on here until late Monday.
Are we all agreed that after July 21 this thread will become a spoiler zone? And not to go in here until we've finished? Or do we want to start a new thread, specifically for people who have finished the 7th book and want to talk about it?

Oooh, that sounds like a great t-shirt Zelda! I have a black Hogwarts one - it's just the logo on it, which is fine by me, because you can't beat 'Never tickle a sleeping dragon' in Latin, hehe! And that's a very good question about the thread housing spoilers or creating a thread specifically for that purpose.... the latter option may be wiser but let's see what the majority reckons.

I agree, I think having a new thread just for discussing the 7th book in its entirety might be best. That way, if you're still reading it and want to look back at something that was discussed on this thread, you can do so without worrying.
