I haven't read it or seen it in a store here, but I've read about it on the internet and I'm definately ordering it from my bookstore soon.

I put Dorothy Parker short stories on hold at the library and Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle was just on IFC today. I watched some it. I noticed many people here like her so I'm giving it a try!

I've never read it, but I really want to do so. I can't find Portable Dorothy Parker in nearest bookstore and I'll order it (and The Life of Pi) from a internet bookstore.

Like lu, I have not yet been able to find the Portable D.P. in any bookstore. Maybe I'll order it from Amazon soon. Does anybody know if there's a German translation out there, and if so, what it is called?

I have the book, I ordered in online. I prefer to order my books online because otherwise it's hard to find the book you want in stores.

Does anybody know if there's a German translation out there, and if so, what it is called? Maybe German translation has a different title. Italian translation of "portable DP" is called in a very different way, meaning something like "collected poems, tales and essays by Dorothy Parker" but it's still hard to find in bookstores.

I thought so at first, too, but the only German title I've found means something like "New York's Stories", and I highly doubt that's it. All the other books of Dorothy Parker I've seen don't seem to have been translated at all... it's a shame. Oh well, I assume it won't do me any harm to read some English books again...

I think the New York Stories is the one, but I'm not sure either...

Hmm, do you think so? I'm not quite sure either because of the difference in the amount of pages (the German edition has about 420 pages whereas the original one seems to have about 640... but that could also be caused by the format or the font size) and the content (in the description of the English edition it says it contains "her finest short stories and poems, some later articles, and all of her excellent "Constant Reader" book reviews [...]", as opposed to the German edition where only "short stories" are mentioned)... Correct me if I'm wrong here, but it doesn't seem they're quite the same! I just wish I had the opportunity to directly compare them in the bookstore...

Well, but at least its something by Dorothy... It's probably way better in English anyway.

Have and love it I don´t think New Yorker Stories is exactly the same, it´s just her stories and no reviews and poems as far as I know. The original is always better and not difficult to understand.
