I own the english version, too. Soooo great. Don't buy the German one (if there is one) - it wouldn't be the same.

OK, you all convinced me, I ordered the English edition online yesterday, along with the unabridged journals of Sylvia Plath. I'm really looking forward to holding these two in my hands! (And yes, I'm buying quite a lot of books recently... )

You should. It's my Car-Book (I know it sounds weird). So, if I have to wait for someone or something I always have a book with me. And due to the fact that it contains short stories, articles and reviews I never have the problem of having forgotten the beginning of the story, when I haven't read in it for a longer time. It's lovely and the quotes are great .

I found a cheap copy of this on Australian Ebay, but it's a bit old and tatty as the copy was published in 1976. I think I'll get it anyway.

I've read The Portable Dorothy Parker recently (it took me months to finish it) and I loved it! It's so great. I usually like short stories as a genre and hers are really good, I'm not a big fan of poetry instead but I liked her poems too. I loved her style of writing and I've started wondering how her stories translated into italian sound...I think I'll check out from library some of them one day.

You guys should read "The Wicked Pavilion" by Dawn Powell. Very much like Dorothy Parker, but less depressing. I find it so bizarre to hear that you guys can't find copies at your book stores, because everytime I go into mine, there's always at least one copy. Which means no one is reading her. Shame.

i love the portable dorthy parker. i'm almost done reading it. i've been spreading out the stories (hard to do because i don't want to put the book down) as to make it last longer. one or two more stories to go. her writing is so real, i understand the emotion behind each of the stories. dawn powell is high on my tbr. very few people know about powell, everytime i ask someone if they read anything by her i get these blank looks.

I've heard of Dawn Powell but I haven't read anything yet. I definitely shoul read something by her! I suppose bookstores don't have many copies of her books because perhaps she's not very popular here. There are only four italian editions, but one was edited last year so I hope I can find a copy of that. (I'll probably go to bookstore later. )

I have "Complete Stories", which is like The Portable, but only with her stories (a bit obvious as to clarify, but well... ) And I loved it, I especially like this one story... The Garter... It's hilarious... It's so neurotic it reminds me of myself! lol
