Isa and I have talked about this and I was wondering is anyone interested in doing our own version of the Jane Austen Book Club? It would run on the side from the usual book club discussions after Persuasion, if anyone's interested.

I'll be willing to participate in discussions, but I'm not sure if I have the time to read and prepare stuff for a certain book. (Isn't that what they do in the book/movie?)

We talked about this with some members during the Friday night chat session, and it was suggested we could do one Austen book club, one non-Austen book club, and so on throughout the year. We could keep the same format as for the regular book club discussions and not necessarily have anyone prepare something. But we're open to suggestions as always!

That would be fun. I love Jane Austen so any chance I can get to read her stuff again, I'll take.

Do you mean an Austen bookclub like all of her books and then a non-Austen book club with a bunch of books by another author (Vonnegut comes to mind since I know he's written a lot but I've never read any of his). I'm just not sure I understand what you said there, Isa I meant we could do Persuasion, and then 1984, then another Austen novel, and then another regular book club where we have a poll and pick a book, and so on. Does that make more sense?

Does that make more sense? Yeah, that makes sense! Like every other book is Austen? What about when we reach her juvenilia and short stuff like Sandition that's unfinished? I think those would be really interesting to discuss.

I would love to! One suggestion is that maybe the Jane Austen Book Club could have it's own board (alongside the Book Board and the General Board). The only thing that I don't like about our regular discussions is that the whole discussion is in one thread. There are so many posts to it (which is great!) that it's hard to discuss more than one question at a time. You have to dig to find what you want to reply to, and then I always feel like I'm changing the subject a little. I wonder if it would be fun to have a board for it, and then there could be individual threads to discuss certain topics or questions about the book. Anyway, just an idea! I'll try to keep up and participate either way.

I think that's a great idea, Zelda! If there are going to be so many books discussed, we should definitely not put them all in one thread, so you're idea makes sense. It would be easier to separate the different book discussions and then it would also be easier to discuss them later after the specific discussion was finished.
Maybe we should move the P&P thread from the original WB board to the JA board if we decide to make a separate board.
