While I agree with you and what you've (Isa, Kristie, and Emily) said, I also think that it's just as vital to the success of a gymnastic team to have an older and therefore more experienced member on their team because a more experienced Olympian, especially one who's competed in more than one Olympic game before, knows how to cope better with their nerves and the enormous pressure placed upon any Olympian. So while physically a younger athlete may be more fit than an older athlete, I would argue that they're definitely not as mentally fit as an older athlete. Therefore, I don't necessarily think that it is easier for a younger athlete than it is for an older athlete.

I can see where you're all coming from and I didn't really think of that. I think now China's in the wrong, because there were rules for a reason. But doesn't it mean that it's "unfair" for swimmers and sprinters? Like the younger you are the more agile you are. It reminds me of school carnivals when there'd be 100m freestyle with different age groups.

I think it's different for swimmers and sprinters because in their case, they need time to develop their muscles for speed and power. It varies a lot according to sports, for some events, athletes are considered to be at their peak when they're 18 years old, in others it's when they're about 25 years old... I think the other problem with gymnastics is that they wanted to avoid gymnastics "boot camps", where really young kids are forced to train in really harsh conditions, but unfortunately I think some countries still do it...

I've seen this clip of an Australian male pole-vaulter winning gold over 10 times now. People are getting so excited!! It's our first male gold in athletics in about 6o yrs i think. I'm sad that it's all ending tomorrow night!! I'm excited about the men's basketball.
