I agree with Isa and I prefer the winter games (I used to be a figure skater), but I always watch the opening ceremony at least. This one was AMAZING! The dancers and all the special effects at the beginning were wowing, and I always watch the parade just until my country comes on. Go USA! My mom is crazy about figure skating, and so am I.

My family has always been avid winter and summer Olympic watchers! The opening ceremonies were amazing! I enjoy watching swimming/diving and soccer. However, we don't have cable, and soccer isn't on our TV (an apparently we can't get the NBC Olympic Soccer Channel?). So I'll DVR it on my parents house on MSNBC.... Forza Azzurri (you know, if the US is out of the mix )

I'm so happy that we have opur first gold! womans estafette swimming, or something But I think we aren't going to do so well this year.. theres no Inge de bruin and Pieter van den Hoogeband isn't going to swim a lot of games.. so I think we are losing the great swimmers..

Still nothing for us, we really suck at summer sports, lol! I think we might get something in rowing and/or diving, though...

I'm sure we'll do well in equestrian too, especially since Ian Miller is riding again and he's a veteran of and a legend in the sport. Canada has a lot of great riders actually.

* Millar I think Canada always does well in the Olympics, but unfortunately we often don't do well enough to make it to the podium in the Olympics. We consistently win more medals in the winter Olympics than in the summer Olympics though, which isn't surprising to me considering our climate. I wonder if this is true for other countries? Probably, I would think.
I really hope Ian Millar wins a gold medal in this Olympics because he's ridden in 8 Olympic games, and although he has always placed very well in every Olympics he's ever ridden in, he's never won so it would be great if he finally won. Still, he's regarded as one of the greats in the sport of jumping because he has won a lot of other medals, prizes and awards. I'm a huge Ian Millar fan! I even met him once. lol

I think the reason Michael Phelps attracts so much attention is that he's one of the few swimmers who actually stands a very good chance to win every single event he's in. Most swimmers compete in many events, but only have a chance of medaling in one or two, let alone all.
Also, the next gold medal he wins will make him the greatest olympic champion of all time (more gold medals that anyone else).
I'm excited for him, and it's really fun to watch him swim. The 400 meter relay that his team won last night was an incredible race!

We consistently win more medals in the winter Olympics than in the summer Olympics though, which isn't surprising to me considering our climate. I wonder if this is true for other countries? Probably, I would think. I also think it's got something to do with our climate - I mean, a young Canadian is more likely to take up skiing than, say, fencing. But I also think that we'd do better if the government did a better job of supporting our athletes. After we came back from the 2004 Olympics with only 12 medals they did start a sponsorship program for athletes, but it'll take more than 4 years before we can see the results... Go Canada nonetheless!

I stayed up late watching the Men's gymnastic team finals last night. I didn't get to bed until 1:30, and I'm exhausted! I'm glad I watched it though, it was exciting. The US men took home the bronze, which no one thought they could ever do - since they lost their two best guys from the team (the Hamms) and had no one on the team with olympic experience. I'm really happy for China too - their Men's team wanted gold SO bad. Though I do think their coach is a little too intense (I don't like that he said he'd jump off a building if China didn't win gold - I think that's a little too much pressure.) Tonight I'm going to have to stay up just as late to watch the Women's Gymnastics finals. I love it though - It's my favorite thing to watch.

Oh my goodness! I could tell she was lyp-syncing, but I thought they had pre-taped her voice - not the voice of another girl who wasn't deemed cute enough to be on TV, that's just awful!
