I thought it would be nice to have a thread to talk about the Olympics. Right now the opening ceremony is prime time in my time zone. I'm watching it now, and it's incredible! I loved the drummers at the beginning, and just watched the end of the printing blocks - so incredible!

Great thread, I love the Olympics, especially the summer Olympics! I'm currently watching dressage, which is an equestrian event. I have yet to see the opening ceremonies though. I'll have to see if they're on television afterwards, they're always spectacular like you've described. Is there a particular sport or sports that you follow, or do you watch at random? Personally, I watch the Olympics at random - if it's on t.v., which it usually is, then I'll watch it - except for equestrian, rowing and tennis, which I follow quite closely.

I just finished watching the opening ceremony and wow, that was incredible! I usually watch bits and pieces of the Olympics, and I'll usually make a special effort to watch if I know a Canadian athlete is competing. I much prefer watching the winter games though, there's not really one summer sport I'm a big fan of...

I watch any and all events ... some much closer than others. My absolutely favorite is gymnastics, and I also enjoy swimming and diving and track and field. I'm excited because this is the first olympics that I have a DVR, so I'll be able to watch a lot more. For some reason, having the olympics on in the background is just very comforting to me. Probably because I've been a huge olympics fan my whole life, so the sound of it is comforting and makes me nostalgic.

I agree with Isa and I prefer the winter games (I used to be a figure skater), but I always watch the opening ceremony at least. This one was AMAZING! The dancers and all the special effects at the beginning were wowing, and I always watch the parade just until my country comes on. Go USA!

I watched the opening ceremony and it truly was great! The drummers at the beginning were incredible and the way they carried the olympic flame was impressive! I think they did a great job... I always try to watch the gymnastics but I usually enjoy whatever is on...

I watched it last night. Man, Chinese people are crazy All the fireworks and thousands of people dancing, it was awesome! I especially liked how that guy flew in the air with the torch, it was so cool

I'm not so big fan of Olympics, but I watched the opening ceremonial and you're right, it was amazing. And this year, I'm going to watch gymnastics and basketball.

It was so spectacular!! It was so amazing how all the drummers were in sync and the countdown til 8pm was breathtaking... Also, the little girl singing in the red dress at the beginning was so adorable I had all my aunts and uncles over to watch the ceremony and it was really nice. I've gotten into the chinesey-olympics spirit and painted my nails red!! I've had the tv on all day while studying for trials, and it's been ok so far. Probably the most interesting was women's basketball and then the heats for swimming.

I couldn't watch the opening cermony. I enjoy Olympics, both Summer and Winter one. I usually watch them at random. I really like swimming and gymnastic.

I haven't been a big sport enthusiast, but over the few years I have watched the Olympics and other big games and almost enjoyed I prefer summer Olympics, in winter games there is only hockey and curling that I like to watch. I don't follow any partidular sport, it depends what is on tv. I think here there is much track and field on tv and less horse stuff, fencing etc. And the opening ceremony was amazing, it is going to be hard to top that. It is going to get harder and harder to create something totally unique and amazing. And expencive too.

So I've been watching the Olympics all day today (watching Walsh/May play beach volleyball right now) and I really liked watching the small amount of men's gymnastics that they've shown so far. The US team is definitely the underdogs, but I really like them. My favorite on the team is Raj Bhavsar - he is so cute and sweet! His story is great too - he really wanted to go to Athens in 2004 but wasn't selected for the team. He had his sights set on Beijing and was told he was only an alternate, despite amazing performances in other competitions. When Paul Hamm dropped out, Raj got to go! Here's his profile: www.nbcolympics.com/athletes/athlete=682/bio/index.html

I forgot, I love volleyball! Both playing and watching it. Unfortunately I'll miss most of the matches that are on tv I had some time for tv today and I watched a bit of fencing at lunchtime, an Italian won.

I watched beach volleyball today too. Our team lost. I loved the opening ceremony, it was amazing, and all the fireworks... ;D ;D I wouldn't expect less from the inventors of gun powder, I actually prefer winter games too, because we have some pretty good cross country skiers. Last time we won three gold medals, which is really good, at least for Estonia!!
