I finished Mother Night by Kurt Vonnegut. I really loved it. It's hard to rank the Vonneguts I've read because I loved them all, but I think Mother Night is my favorite.

Today, I finished reading Fahrenheit 451. I definitely enjoyed reading it. But I did think that it ended a bit abruptly. I wish I had gotten to know the characters in the novel more intimately. I felt a sense of detachment from many of the characters in the novel, including Mildred, Guy's so-called wife; personally, I think this was intentional on the author's part. In other words, I think this sense of detachment is exactly the effect which he, as in Ray Bradbury, sought to create. I certainly think this sense of detachment is representative of their society in general. I apologize if my thoughts are a little muddled at the moment. I hope my comments make sense? I'm a little tired after working a 12 hour shift. lol

Yes, I'm very curious to know your opinions about Saturday too. I've been debating whether or not to read it myself. I read Atonement last year, and last week I read both Amsterdam and On Chesil Beach. I should be, but I'm not tired of Ian McEwan yet. I don't think it's my goal to read all of his novels, there are a few novels he's written which, I'm sure, probably wouldn't be of much interest to me, but I've never read a novel of his which I didn't enjoy so we'll see. I hope you liked it?

I read The Penderwicks today. It was so perfect, I loved every moment of reading it. It was the perfect children's lit book with wonderfully alive characters. I've been getting very into the summer mood, and this was a perfect thing to read right now. Not only is it set in the summer and reminded me of lovely summer vacations when I was younger, but also reminded me of how much wonderful reading I did those summers. I highly recommend it, and I can't wait to get the sequel.

I finished "Saturday" yesterday.. How was this? I've read a few reviews and I'm still unsure whether or not it's worth getting... I really enjoyed it, it is extremely introspective and very well studied and I have to say that I found fascinating how McEwan described the work of the protagonist, a surgeon. It is not a easy novel but I think it is worth reading!
