Recently in the Random Question Game thread, we started talking about Jefie's wedding dress. So I thought we could talk about weddings a little. We have a few married members, and bookaddict is engaged. So, we could talk about weddings, plans for weddings, fantasies of weddings, honeymoons, dresses, etc. Anyone else think we could talk about this stuff?

Good idea to start a thread for this topic since it's come up a few times already in different threads. Michelle, do you have wedding pics to post?

My wedding pictures weren't digital, but I could try to track some down from someone else. I'd scan them in, but the computer is here and the scanner and pictures are in Michigan.

I've just seen the picture of your weeding dress, Jefie. It's wonderful If I were to get married I'd like to have a dress which looks like yours. It's really beautiful.

I really want my wedding to be very creative. I also want it to be a blast for everyone who attends. I want to have the reception at an Inn or a cute hotel, so that everyone can have rooms right there. Then we can stay up until the wee hours of the morning dancing and celebrating. Then all meet in the morning for a late breakfast.
I have two wedding styles in mind, both very different from each other. One is a black and white wedding - very elegant and simple. Black and White for the colors obviously.
The other is a more "bohemian" wedding. I love the idea of having it in the country in a huge cleared our barn. Lots of lanterns and firelight, and a big area to dance. The food could be pot-luck style. Very low pressure. Still decorated beautifully, but much more bohemian.

I guess our wedding was the typical French Canadian wedding - we exchanged vows in the same church my parents and grand-parents got married in (yes, me the big non-believer actually got married in a Catholic church, but the priest seemed to be OK with it - it was the first wedding they'd had there in a while and I think they were happy to get the money it cost for renting the church), then we had our reception in this nice place that has a great view of the St. Lawrence River (we went down to the beach to take some pics), had dinner and danced 'til about... I don't know exactly, we left at around 2:00 am (it was our wedding night after all ) and there were still people dancing. It was so much fun!

I love your idea of a bohemian wedding Emily! That's like what I had in mind too. The idea of having the reception at a hotel so everyone's rooms are right there is a good one too.
I also agree about Isa's wedding dress, it looked beautiful!

I had a traditional wedding, too. We got married in a Catholic Church and had the full Mass and everything. But with our families, we didn't really have an option on that and I'm glad for the traditional ceremony. The reception was the most fun I've ever had in my life. We had it at a hotel because we knew that at an Irish/Italian Catholic wedding with many people who had only just turned 21 there would be lots of alcohol and we didn't want to worry about people driving. We had a great DJ and he was able to keep the dance floor full all night. The reception ended at midnight, but apparently everyone just moved to the hotel bar and kept the party going. The next morning, we all had brunch at the hotel. I know I'm biased, but I haven't been to a wedding yet that has lived up to mine. . It was sooooo much fun. I wish it was something you did more than once.

Ours also was in a hotel because most people were from out of town, and we had a brunch the next day - sounds like our weddings were similar, memccart!

Kristie congratz on the 4th anniversary!!
Daniel and I will also have a traditional catholic ceremony. We also want to have it at a hotel because that's where the hall will be, and everyeon can just stay there because it's a far drive for everyone after. I just have to find a way to make the place more original, because we've had family members get married there already, but it's the only hall that's big enough.
