POA was my favorite too. But I can't even remember what really happened because I read the book 5 years ago. I need to read it again. I do like the movie also.

I so loved the first 4 books of the HP series and then almost lost interest. The following books were too long- now I don't object to reading fat books, but I object to reading fat books where nothing much happens. It seems to me that JKR had reached such a degree of fame and popularity that her scripts weren't properly edited by her publisher anymore. It seemed to me that the last two books only positioned poeple for the final showdown, but on their own they were pretty uneventful. No new magic ideas were introduced, even the characters lost their charm. What with Hermione suddenly being all selfish and not caring about others anymore?? Several figures seemed to start acting out of character. I'm sure I'll buy the last volume anyway, since I want to know how it all ends, but I couldn't say that I am as excited and full of anticipation as I used to be. Does anybody share my thoughts?

I agree at an extent, with regards to certain elements, yes but - just IMO - i've seen far worse OOC moments in film sequals this year (cough Pirates 2! cough)

I pretty much feel the same way you do about the editing part, bastet - there were so many loose ends in the last two books, you wouldn't think this would happen with a book surrounded by so much hype and expectations. It feels like both J.K. and the publishing house were really pressed for time, and it probably would have been worth to wait a little while longer. But I'll probably remain a Harry Potter fan no matter what, so of course I'll be one of the lunatics standing in line at midnight when the next book comes out!

*the following is pure pathetic fandom ranting: My mate and i plan to attend at least one BIG HP release party and then, once the last book is devoured, we want to throw a "Harry's Death Day Party" to both honour and mourn the end of the series... we'll be in denial for about a month after, and then start getting withdrawals about a year on when the reality hits us: NO MORE HAZ....... what a sad thought....

But then you can always go back and read the series again... but a mourning party sounds fun! And sad A girl I've met has to be one of the biggest HP fans out there: every time a new book comes out, she starts prepping by reading all the previous books, and then she takes a week off from work starting on the day it gets released to make sure she can read it all straight away. Isn't that crazy?

I re-read at least the one prior to each new release, and i check out Mugglenet and the Leaky Cauldron (major fansites) each day for news and to watch the countdown clock. I also read as many essays and theories as a can get my hands on - last year also included the addition of podast listening. On the day of book 6's release last year i dressed up in my Hogwarts t-shirt, complete with a purple cape, a wand my palastic HP glasses - they were a gift, i swear! - and my stuffed toy Hedwig and sat outside the bookstore for an hour and a half with my pal Cath, along with about 30 other people - the line built up more closer to 9 am. We had lots of sugar in our systems, so we were quite hyped... and i was 19 at the time of doing this and totally unashamed! Still am, in fact.

You're a very dedicated fan! I also have a Gryffindor outfit and a Nimbus 2000 that I usually wear on Halloween (couldn't do it today because I'm off to Montreal in a few, darn! But Happy Halloween to y'all!). My favorite bookstore organizes HP parties everytime a book is being released so we get there at around 10 pm, watch a HP movie, eat some chocolate frogs and beetlejuice-flavored popcorn and get in line to buy our book at 12:00 sharp!

Aw! that's lovely - there aren't really any big parties in our area, but we plan to head down to Sydney for Book 6, coz there's sure to be some serious celebrating going on in the city. And before the release of Book 6, i'm going onto Allivan's on the net and ordering Cath and myslef a house scarf; she'll probably want to be Slytherin and i'll probably opt for Hufflepuff, coz that's closest to me

she takes a whole week off work to read it??? That's totally nuts! Is that like her annual holiday leave or does she take it off sick?

That´s really weird. Without distractions it takes about a day to finish a HP book so taking a whole week off seems crazy.
I always wait a couple of weeks before buying the newest book so I don´t run into major fans. No offence lol! and since I want to read it in English I have to wait longer anyway, don´t really understand why the translation comes into the stores sooner.

That's really weird, over here the French translation comes into stores something like 6 months after the English book is released.
Yeah, she takes annual leave. I'm not sure why she needs a whole week, maybe she's got some sort of a ritual that goes with it? I've never asked...
