As i started this thread on the old forum, i will start it up again here, and if it dies a slow and painful death, i will surely cry. Come here to discuss the writing of Jo, the world of Haz, his friends and foes, the themes/issues/secrets within the novels and most importantly IMO when/if you think we'll be saying R.I.P. Harry........

I really like the Harry Potter books.... I'm glad the movies do the books justice. I can't wait for the last one to come out. It's bitter sweet...happy for the new book, but sad because it's the end. I hope Harry isn't killed off. I think it might end that way tho. Who thought Dumbledore would get killed off? Not me.

It's the age-old rule i'm afriad; wise man/mentor with grey/white hair and infinate advice always dies so that the hero has to go at it alone.

I like the books better than the movies, I think the books are funnier. Often Fred and George's witty comments get cut out and they seem kinda geeky in the films which wasnt the impression i got from the books.

I hate when you read the book, and then watch the movie and it's as if it's a completly different story. When they miss key moments...and change the ending!

yeah I agree that they did a pretty good job all the same. I'm not sure how much faith I have in Daniel R's acting abilities though Ron is adorable.

I may be alone in thinking this way, but it's Dan i trust the most actually, coz i've seen him develop more greatly than any of the others - though both Emma and Rupert aren't as grating as they used to. Plus, Dan is the one i think i would like the most as a person, in addition to Matt Leiws (Neville) - who has done several podcasts and is a lovely bloke from what i can decipher from those half hours!

I have a question. Harry broke up with Ginny because he said that those closest to him would prolly be attacked first, since he's not popular with the evil crowd and all. Right? This happened, I'm pretty sure...anyways...So Harry says Ginny will get hurt. Won't Ron and Hermione get hurt as well? Yet he doesn't stop them from ever helping him...what's this about? or is it just me that realized it...

I guess that he knows that hermione and ron could get hurt as well, but I think, it makes no sense for harry to send them, cause first they wouldn't go and second does Voldemort know that they're close to harry so...

I really like the early books. They have more of a spark to them.

I really like the books, movies don't do them justice. the movies cut out so many of my favortie parts, and they don't explain everything, so if you don't read the book, then i think that it would be hard to get all of the little things that are going on.

I agree with you gilmoregirls021, the movies don't do justice to the book. I really feel like I'm watching a great adventure-movie, yeah, but I miss the characters. They simply have no depth at all in the movie, and it's hard to be compassionate about them, like you are in the books. I really think that the emphasis is way to much on the adventures then on the actual characters and the school and the wizarding world, you know?

I view the movies as a kind of treat to the readers of the books. No movie will ever come close to being as great as the book, but it is fun to see everything come alive on the big screen.
However, I hate that many people have become movie fans and have never read the books. Perhaps they don't think they need to, since they know what happens? And I think to a certain extent, the movies are only good if you HAVE read the books.
I agree, the books are much more humorous than the movies. And the characters are developed so much deeper. I'm not sure I would have even liked Harry in the movies if I didn't have the books for background.
My favorite movie was prisoner of azkaban. i think that was the director that had the same opinions as me: the movie being a tribute to the book. I loved the cinematography and the attention to detail on that one. (P of A is also my favorite of the books, so I think that might have an impact too).

That was my favourite too. I think that was the high point of the series. I haven't seen the movie for a while, but I remember being a little disappointed by it, though I don't remember why.

POA both in book and film form is my fav too, although i do have strong affections for Order of the Phoenix - BECAUSE of it's length and Haz'a attitude and emotional breakdown, which tend to be what most people complain about with regards to that episode.
