What about The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy? I think that one can lead to a good discussion.

We choose one modern, and then one classic book. We're doing Middlesex right now, so the next one will be a classic book.

I really liked 1984 and On The Road and I'd be ready to re-read them. I'm a big fan of Calvino, so everything by him would be great for me; same for Edith Warthon, I liked Ethan Frome and Age of Innocence so much. I'd also like to read something by Steinbeck and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.

I just got Grapes of Wrath from the library, that would be a good Steinbeck one.

I think a Bronte novel is a good idea:D It seems to me that many of us have read Emily or Charlotte or both, so maybe it's Anne's turn? The Tenant of Wildfell Hall for instance?

I've read Jane Eyre, and I own Villette (obviously both Charlotte). I'd be fine with Tenant of Wildfell Hall. I think I might own Wuthering Heights, but I can't remember lol

If we choose Anne, how about Agnes Grey? It's not that long and we could compare it to Jane Eyre because it has to do with a governess who can't quite find her role in society, which is interesting...

I think I'd be in the mood to read 1984 or one of the lesser known Brontë novels...
