We haven't finished analyzing Dead Souls yet, but it usually takes a while to pick a book for the book club so I thought we'd start looking for suggestions right away. We're looking for a contemporary book this time

I don't know about you guys but I want something a little more fun rather than serious!

I've been wanting to read Middlesex, and I don't think a ton of people on here have read it already. It's supposed to be very good.

I like the idea of Middlesex too. The idea of A Great and Terrible Beauty is good, but I think a lot of people have already read it.

I've also been curious about Middlesex, I was wondering what it was about. It looks very interesting. Another suggestion I would like to throw out there is The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay. I read it in June, and am looking for a reason to read it again. It's excellent. Edited because I'm tired and can't spell today.

I'd love to read The Eyre Affair, but perhaps too many people have read it already. Some other books that I've got sitting on my TBR pile: A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby, The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd, the curious incident of the dog in the night-time by Mark Haddon, The Red Tent by Anita Diamant and Bel Canto By Ann Patchett.

I'd love to read middlesex also, but perhaps it is a tad too long. People seem to lose momentum with the longer ones.
Ummm I haven't had much of a think yet, I know there is a new one out by Lisa See and everyone loved the Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. I'll have a bit more of a think and suggest more later.

Another suggestion I would like to throw out there is The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay. I read it in June, and am looking for a reason to read it again. It's excellent. I have that book on my amazon.com wish list, so I would have a totally justified reason for buying it if it was the next book club book! Yay! As for the other books suggested, I haven't heard of most of them but I will go and look them up... This is exciting!

I like the idea of Middlesex. Or The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay. I think too many people have already read A Great and Terrible Beauty.
All of my books are at home, so I can't really think of any ideas of my own.
