I don't really have a favorite book to movie but i deffintely have a least favorite!!! A HAndmaids Tale the movie was horrible, It left out a lot of the strictness of the novel the handmaids acted very differently then what they were described as and then they completly ended up changing the ending which i found very disappointing. I geuss maybe it was because it was an older movie but i don tthink it was a great representaion to the book... Of topic the opera was really good though!

I haven't seen either, I don't think you can get them in Australia. Once I find out whether or not I have a multi region dvd player i might order them off the internet to have a look.

The region code thing can really be a problem. It took me a couple of month to find out that I can change them on my player. Do you have a P/N button on your remote or sth like that?

Doesn´t it say in the manual? For Australia it´s 4 and then there´s this whole PAL and NTSC compatibility thing. I googled my dvd player to find out. Have you tried that?

Nah it's not in the manual, which is annoying. I'll have to try googling it later that's a good idea.

As it is a current fad, this year's BBC miniseries of Jane Eyre was bloomin' fantasic, judging from the many many clips i've seen so far! Excellent work by Ruth Wilson as Jane and Toby Stehpens (mmmmmmmmm........ *dies*) as Mr R. You always favour the adaptation if they have more time to work with the material and get it all in... well, apart from Ang Lee's excellent SAS film of course.

I haven't seen that miniseries but I'll bet it's good, I love BBC productions! I've got the 1997 A&E Jane Eyre at home, it's a pretty good one. I so agree with you, Ang Lee's Sense and Sensibility was so awesome! I have to admit, it's my least favorite novel by Jane Austen, but I thought Emma Thompson did an excellent job when she wrote the script - she made Edward more likeable (well, casting Hugh Grant also helped ) and I like that she gave more importance to the character of Margaret.

Jefie; i'm with you on all that you said, for certain! If memory stands correct, i think it was for SAS that Emma won the gong for Best Adapted Screenplay, and deservedly so. And the character of Margaret was, i feel, made so enjoyable in the film thanks in large part to Emilie, who just cracked me up at every moment! Like at the end, when she was trying to whistle with the blades of grass, bless her! hehehehe! And of course, Kate was lovely lovely lovely... and to think.. it was only her third (mabye even second???) film..... I have not yet seen the 97 Jane Eyre, though i would like to, but i have watched the 95 film version with Charlotte Gainsenbourg and William Hurt a few times now... Charlotte was an excellent Jane.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy was a really good adaptation. They left out just the right parts I think. Anne of Green Gables was also a good one.
I can't really think of a worst adaptation right now. Maybe it will come to me later.

I love, love, loved The Other Boleyn Girl so I'm happy I'll have the opportunity to watch it on screen, but I'm not expecting it to be as good as the book. I think Natalie Portman was a bit of an odd choice to play Anne Boleyn, and certainly not what I imagined the character to look like, but Scarlett Johansson was definately a good choice for Mary.
