That's for sure, but I was still impressed with what they've managed to do with the movies. It can't be easy turning Harry Potter books into movies when you know that so many people have read them and will be very critical of what you put on the screen. You have to stick to the story as much as possible, but the books are so long and full of details, it's impossible to include everything and you have to be very careful about what you leave out because no matter what you do, people are going to be disappointed. I've enjoyed the first four movies but it wouldn't replace reading the book.

I love the Harry Potter books but I usually still like the movies. I agree that they leave stuff out and I didn't like the sudden change of scenery in the books (like where Hagrid's cottage is). But o well...I guess this is contradictory to what I said about no being able to read books and then watch the movies. HP is an exception because I read them soo long before the movies are made I forget about the little details and only remember the general point.

Yeah I agree that the movies aren't all bad, but I definately prefer the books. What about the Roald Dahl books like Charlie and the Chocolate factory? I've never been a fan of either the old film or the new one really, they're just ok I guess. The book was once again better. Although I thought the film version of Matilda was quite good.

I haven't seen the old one, but I thought they did a good job with the new one. Not a big fan either, but I have to give them credit for putting on the screen such an imaginary world!

I like the older Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, but that's prolly because I like musicals. I haven't read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and I haven't seen the new movie with Johnny Depp because it looks way weird. But I love Matilda! The book and the movie.

Johnny Depp in the new movie is so incredibly quirky, way more than the same character in the old one I think. He reminds me a bit of Michael Jackson.

He does too! Actually I remember there was a bit of controversy about that when the movie came out, people blamed Johnny Depp for basing his character on Michael Jackson and that was at the time of the whole child molesting trial, but he strongly denied that he did.

I remember hearing about all that. But no matter how much he denied, it still reminded me of Micheal Jackson, which is why I've still never seen the new one. I've seen the old musical one though.

I'm looking forward to seeing running with scissors, whether it'll be any good is yet to be seen. And I also heard they will be making the lovely bones .

The Harry Potter movies good, books are better. They always are....but I can watch the Harry Potter movies and not complain too much. Favorite book into a movie would have to be the Harry Potter series...
The worst book into a movie was the Davinci Code. The book was intersting, the movie was written assuming everyone read the book. Too much was left out, if you didn't watch the movie you were lost.

I've heard a lot of people say that but I went with hubby and he hadn't read the book but still enjoyed it. In fact he couldn't understand how people how hadn't read the book couldn't follow the plot line, so I dunno... maybe he's just too clever

I always believed the old black and white version of To Kill a Mockingbird was a fantastic movie and classic. We watched it one year in high school english along with reading the book. I remember whoever played Atticus Finch did a stellar acting job on his part. He was really the bright spot of the movie. Him and seeing the mysterious Boo Radley at the end.
