I love buying stuff online, but books here are alot more expensive than in the US. I bought To Kill A Mockingbird online. On the back, it says "US $12,95 / $16.50 CAN". I payed 12 euros, which is about US$ 17.7. But thats because the euro is very strong.. so, they used to be sort of the same... but now they aren't.. but still, books are way to expensive here.. I agree..

Wouldn't a stong euro/weak dollar make the us books cheaper for europeans to buy? You can get more dollars for you euro than you could before.

Yeah, you'd think it'd make a difference but it doesn't, book prices are the same as they were before. Like even with the Canadian dollar being on par with the American one, books are still more expensive in Canada.

But if you bought the book form a US distributor (assuming away shipping/travel costs), it would be cheaper because of the better exchange rate. It's just that they aren't changing the prices where you live.

The publishers wouldn't drop the prices, that's why. Some places will end up selling at the US price. It usually comes out more, with Shipping and customs.

I'd think the same but apperently it's not so easy when I bought The Portable Dorothy Parker online (last September) it was nearly one euro cheaper than in December 2006.

I'm not sure though.. but a lot of people try to buy clothes in America, because they are usually cheaper and with the euro being strong they are even cheaper...
