I've noticed books in America seem to be so much cheaper than what they are here. Often the cover will say it's like $12 in America but here it's usually at least $20ish for a new book. I was wondering how expensive/cheap books are in everybody's countries?

i always thought books here were cheaper only because of the rate of currency. Something to do the money value. but thats interesting. books are SO expensive to begin with no matter what country you are from!

I think that books are expensive here in Italy! I used to borrow books from library for years, now I can save enough money to buy some books I really like; also, I always look for books on sale. Anyway going into a bookstore is a great temptation for me! ;D There are different editions of classics with prices from 7 to 14 euro, if they're long and divided into volumes, they are more expensive. Modern books cost from 10 to 25 or 27 euro, the most of them 15euro. I don't know if books are cheaper in other countries, but I think they are expensive here!

I could be mistaken but I think that books are cheaper in the US than anywhere else in the world. Whenever I'm in the States I make sure to stack up on books because even with the exchange rate - and there isn't much difference between the US and Canadian dollar at the moment - I still save a great deal.

The English paperbacks cost between 8,30 and 14 euros but penguin classics with the cheap paper cost about 3,50 (they used to be one 2,50 ). German books are mostly between 10 and 15 euros but nice editions and hardcovers can be really expensive. They tried to sell one play by Pinter for 14 euros. That´s mean but I think it´s cheaper than in some other countries.

Yeah, most newer books are in trade paperback and they're on average like $15. But $20 in Australia is $15 here and 10 euros is about $13. I think that they're all relatively the same if you take into account exchange rates.

I know this is really old, but I wanted to add something. Books are generally cheaper in the States because that's where most of them are printed. Its something we talked about in school

Sorry, I hadn't realized I had the better deal. Took that for granted I guess.

Honestly i think books are expensive here in the states as well. I mean its a book with several pages filled with ink and MAYBE a decent binding if that... I know if you look at the prices of old books from the 70s or even early '90s they're a lot cheaper. Chains like BN tend to rip you off. Portable Dorothy Parker is $17.00 at BN and only $11.00 on amazon. That's a big difference

I suppose how expensive it is is all relative to what you're used to paying for etc. See $17 for the portable dorothy parker I would consider a catch! I just looked it up and it's $26.95 here.

My friend who lives in the States once told me that when she was young, she would see the price for books in Canada next to the price in the US and there was such a big difference, she thought everybody in Canada must be really rich to afford paying that much money for books!! That really cracked me up, so I just thought I'd share

I think in season 4 when Luke bought that self help book and he read the price tag Andrew said that was really expensive and Luke was like oh that´s the Canadian price ( I´ve been spending my free time watching the dvd box ) so there might a notable difference. I buy most books used or order off the internet.
