With one of the most exciting Primaries still going on in the United States, I just wanted to see what the consensus was here at the Bookclub. I know many of you don't live in the U.S., but I think it would be interesting to see what you guys think!!!! So, who would you vote for? If you wish, you can keep it anonymous. But if not Why? Thought it would be an interesting DISCUSSION!

Obama. I love his idea of politics and how he can energize our generation. I also think he is a fabulous speaker and super-intelligent. And of course, I agree with his positions, but since Clinton and Obama are pretty close on those I had to base my decision on other factors.
*I voted for Ron Paul in the primary though because of the mess that was Michigan...

Obama for me too. I couldn't vote for him in the primary because I'm not a registered democrat, so that kind of sucks.
Anyway, I obviously agree with his positions. I read his book, The Audacity of Hope over last summer and I love his ideas on politics and I think he would represent the country well with his passion and charisma, which I don't feel Clinton would.

Ditto!
When Ohio has its primary, I can vote either party since I'm an independent. I'm going to vote for Obama when it comes time. And my reasoning is the same as memccart's.

Clinton and Obama seems pretty similar in their policies, so I think that their personalities and normal lives are what make people choose one or the other.

Mitt Romney dropped out of the Republican race earlier today. This basically makes McCain the nominee. I'd have preferred Romney because I think he's easier to beat even though he stands for everything I'm against.

Yeah, it's funny how that works. Wanting the opposite party's candidate to be weak. Honestly, since McCain is so old (71) I think more people should pay attention to how his VP will be because McCain could easily die in 4 years.

I completely agree Kristie. Especially since being president is so stressful and takes a large toll on your health. For that reason, I hope he does not pick Huckabee.........that combination is basically the worst thing I can think of....a guy who wont get us out of Iraq in shotgun, and sitting by his side (ready to take over) a person who wouldn't mind making Christianity the nation religion and governing according to the bible instead of the constitution. *shudder*
I voted for Obama on super tuesday and am extremely hoping that he'll get the nomination. I love him...I think he's an amazing guy and very honest. I love that his campaign does not take donations from lobbyists. I think he's the most capable of bringing the much needed change to our country. And I've read his stance all all the important issues and I agree with his ideas and goals.

I think I'd vote for Obama too if I were American... I like his ideas and opinions and he seems decent... I never liked Hillary much, but lately she annoys me even more! I especially hated the crying bit... It seems so fake and manipulative!

I hope the founding fathers rolled over in their graves when he said that. It looks like Obama won the Washington and Nebraska caucuses today. Louisiana primary results aren't in yet. And Huckabee won in Kansas by a lot and gets all of the delegates.

If I could, I would've voted for Obama. Obama and Clinton have (as Kristie already mentioned) very, very similiar policies, but the reason why I prefer Obama is simply because I think he'd do better against McCain. I think Obama attracts a bigger group than Clinton in general. Obama really went for the people that normally aren't that much into politics (which of course explains the huge turnouts), while Clinton appeals the "traditional democrates". Although I like both Clinton and Obama, I think Obama has a much bigger chance to actually become the president if he wins the primaries.

I think you're right about him doing better in the general election. The polls right now show Obama w/ an 8-point lead over McCain and Clinton tied with McCain.
