I went with the contemporary novels that seemed to be mentioned the most often, and I tried to pick books that are not too long...

I also voted for Reading Lolita in Tehran. I've read Snow Flower... and a Great and Terrible Beauty, and most of the other ones are on my TBR list, but Reading Lolita in Tehran is one I already have and I prefer buying the books and my bookstore's closing. But anything is really fine with me

They all sound like interesting books. I voted for Atwood though. The girls in my class really liked that one.

I voted for Lolita in Teheran, sounds interesting. I've read 'Teheran, a swansong' by F. Springer (Dutch novellist) and I think Teheran is a very interesting capital of a country that has been a hot news-item these days (I think in America as well as in Holland, probably even more). I must say I've no idea what's Lolita in Teheran about, so I'm going to 'google' it right now.

P.S. I wouldn't mind reading any other book from the list!

I finally made up my mind and voted for Life of Pi. I've got it at home and I've got a feeling I won't ever read it unless something cool like the book club forces me to do it! But I'm OK with the other books too, that's why it was so hard to just pick one!

I have all of these books, so it was really hard for me to choose. Looking forward to the end results.

I voted for reading lolita in Tehran which I got for Christmas but haven´t had the time to read yet. I´d be okay with the Atwood or a great and terrible beauty though.

I voted for A Great and Terrible Beauty because I think it'll be different reading a young-adult book instead of let's say a classic or a "hardcore book" sometimes it's just nice to read a really good book with interesting themes and know that it's not real. There's something about reading a book that has no outward meaning for you and then when you read it you feel you can relate to the characters. That's what a real writer means to me. Vote for A Great and Terrible Beauty!!!

I voted for the Life of Pi because it's one of my favorite books ever, and I know that there's a lot of cool things to discuss in it. As soon as I read it I was dying to talk about it with everyone I knew.
I've also wanted to read The Secret Life of Bees, a lot of my friends love that one.
In the past I really wanted to read Reading Lolita in Tehran, but then several people I know read it and said it was disappointing. Has anyone here already read it? If so, what did you think, overall?

Hey Zelda, I just wanted to know some of the interesting points in The Life of Pi. All the reviews never gave a really great summary that piqued my interest. Maybe u could be more thorough. Thanks

I was wondering when will the official results be in? So, people can try to pick up a copy to start the new discussion because we are almost finished F451.

Hey Zelda, I just wanted to know some of the interesting points in The Life of Pi. All the reviews never gave a really great summary that piqued my interest. Maybe u could be more thorough. Thanks HI! sorry I missed seeing this sooner. Life of Pi is hard to describe because if someone had told me the plot before hand, I might not have been interested in reading it. It's about a boy, Pi Patel, whose father owns a zoo in India. Pi is deeply interested in religion, in fact he actively practices three different organized religions at once! (This leads to some absolutely hilarious parts of the book.) The second half of the book is completely different. He is shipwrecked on a lifeboat with a live Bengal tiger. The rest of the book is about his survival story. What makes this book incredible is the writing and the character Pi. He is one of the most likable characters I have ever come across in literature. His voice is incredibly real and warm. The end of the book and the message conveyed through the story leaves you thinking about it for days. Everyone I know who has read this book has loved it.
