I couldn't find a thread for War and Peace though I'm surprised we don't have one.
One of my goals this year is to read War and Peace. I'm thinking of starting it sometime soon (maybe April) and I thought I'd see if anyone wanted to join me. A book this long might be nice to read with other people for motivation. My plan is to read one "book" a week (80-100 pages). Obviously I'll read other things as well. Unless of course, I get caught up in it and decide to read it faster.
Any takers?

I might take you up on this offer. Although, it might be kinda tough since April is the last month of school for me and I would have finals and stuff. I would definitely be willing to try though! I've had this book in the back of my mind for a while now.

I have no reason I need to start in April. We can start in May if that's better. I just figured the earlier I start, the more likely it is that I'll finish this year.

If you are willing to start in May, that's great. Haha, I definitely understand that. I would love to tackle War and Peace this year.

If you don't mind, I'd like to join you too! I've had these books sitting on my bookshelf for a long time, but I've never found time to read them.

I know Danielle is ready. Are you ready to start, Lucky? Like I said above, I planned on reading a "book" a week. Are your copies divided into 14 books and an epilogue?
Can we read the first section by Sunday, May 10? It's chapters 1-24 and it's 117 pages in my edition.
Or if you don't want to keep to a "schedule" we can just read it at our own pace thought that would make it harder to discuss while we're reading.

Yes, of course, I'm ready. But problem is that my copies are divided only into 4 books. One book has around 400 pages. And the books are divided into 15 sections and an epilogue. So it's not ideal I would say . But chapters should be (theoretically) same, right?

Hmm...the problem then becomes that my chapters start over at each new book. So I'm assuming the chapter numbers are the same for the first section and then we can figure it out as we go.

I have the Modern Library Classics edition, which sounds like it is similar to your version, Michelle. I am fine with doing a book per week and with starting discussion on Sunday May 10th. I think that if we keep the same pace throughout, it would be a lot easier for discussion purposes than if we just read on our own. It's up to you two though. I should probably mention that I will be leaving for my study abroad program in Spain on June 7th (until July 10th), which might pose a bit of a problem when it comes to keeping exact pace with you guys, but I will do my best when that time comes to keep up.

I think what I might do to combat the time issue with study abroad is to read more than 1 book while I am still at home, if I can. For example, if I read 2 books per week while I am here, I would have 8 books done, which would be more than half of the whole book itself. I'll just have to keep in mind what is in each book when I am discussing, so as not to reveal anything that you two haven't read yet . This way, when I leave for Spain, I will be ahead, so I won't have to worry as much about keeping up during my program and my pace would even out with yours. Hopefully this makes sense.
