ok, I would like to find out what happens in the other version.. so I guess a spoiler alert should be made here.. but it is an old book, so maybe it's not that necesary but still, BEWARE! ** Ok, in my version, Marja marries Nikolaj and Natascha marries Piere. Andrej goes back to the war and everyone is happy... (I guess.. ) I think I read that Petja & Andrej died in other versions of the book?

*****SPOILER*****
Yes, Andrey dies after the French invade Moscow and the Rostovs leave with all the soldiers. Natasha nurses him and Princess Marya (sorry my version has different spellings- Ys instead of Js) visits and then he dies.
Petya dies during the French retreat from Moscow. He is with Denisov and Dolohov. He childishly flies into a battle and get a bullet to the head.
But those marriages still occur. I don't see how Natasha could have married Pierre if Prince Andrey were still living...

******SPOILER***** Andrej gets nursed by Natascha, but Andrej is too proud to ask Natascha again. And when he hears his sister about Nikolaj, he wants them to be able to marry. (Since they won't be able to when Andrej marries Natasja, since that makes them brother and sister... At least, that is what Sonja says.) Andrej talks to Sonja about Natasja and who she loves. And Sonja says Natasja loves Pierre, but that she doesn't know it. So then they all work together and they try to get them together. Then later on when Andrej is better he goes back to someplace in the war, military (whatever it was ) where he meets Nikolaj and Petja. Petja is really happy to have been in the fight and tells lots of stories about it. I think I'm glad he lives in my version . Oh and was Pierre a prisoner? I really liked that part . ****Spoiler end**** What kind of annoyed me was that every character seemed to have a milion different names. It was so confusing. Pierre was Pierre, and then Besoechov. And I think Andrej had a bunch of different names as well... Edited for all the missing letters.

Yes, Pierre was a prisoner which I think was really good for his character development although kinds of weird how he got in a position to be taken prisoner.
All Russian novels are that way with the names and the more you read, the more they start to make sense and you can see the pattern for the names. The first Russian novel I read was Crime and Punishment and I remember getting so frustrated at the names.
