I know it's long, but The Count of Monte Cristo is my very favorite book and a classic. It is a great story! So I recommend it.

I like that we're all suggesting books that are actual Must Reads. It validates the choices. Sometimes I find books on these sort of lists where you just think, "WHAT?! Seriously?"
I agree with all of the ones you've listed, and I'm making a note to pick some of these up, like Mice of Men which I haven't read yet!
I'm going to say Life of Pi. That book was a trip. It just has so many levels to it, I think its fantastic.

I can't tell you how grateful I am that I decided when I was around twelve, and thirteen years old to read Anne of Green Gables and Little Woman. Both Louisa May Alcott and L.M. Montgomery are fantastic writers whose novels definitely impacted my future reading choices and habits. All I will say is that I wouldn't be the reader, or writer, I am today without having read their novels; for that reason, I owe them a tremendous debt of thank you. Therefore, in my opinion, they're both must-reads! (Highly enjoyable must-reads!)

I have always enjoyed Wuthering Heights it's just so dark and passionate and so completely different from the author, Emily Bronte, who was a virtual recluse
