Has anyone read this series? I recently fell in love with the HBO series True Blood. I found out it is based on a book series by Charlaine Harris. Im wondering if its worth picking up the series.
from amazon: Sookie Stackhouse is just a small-time cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana. Until the vampire of her dreams walks into her life-and one of her coworkers checks out.... Maybe having a vampire for a boyfriend isn't such a bright idea.

It sounds more than interesting! I'm going to look in the library for it.

I read the first few of them..... then I got mad at the author for some reason (hey, I was pregnant!) and stopped reading them. They were cute. Not as good as Twilight, IMO.

Love the True Blood show and a friend has the novels, so i definately plan to read them one day, although i'm told there are quite a few differences between the mediums, namely in how certain characters are portrayed (especially Bill) Can anyone tell me if that's the case?

A friend of mine got me the first book for Christmas. I've only seen the first episode of the tv series so I'm not sure if I'll like them.

My sister in law is a huge fan of the books and the series. The first season is based on the first novel and is expanded quite a bit. It develops the characters more and she said it is more "gritty" than the novels. She told me that the author of the novels is working with them on making the series (but I don't know if it's true.)

I'm a huge fan of the t.v. series and I recently read the first book. I really enjoyed it but I realized the the show completely made the character of Tara up. Apart from that the two are fairly similar.

Golly, it would be weird to read the books without the presence of Tara, seeing as she's such a powerful figure on screen and in relation to both Sookie and Jason.

Hi guys! Haven't been around for ages! I bought and read the first 3 novels of the Sookie Stachouse Series and while I like them a lot better than- say- Twilight, I think the TV series is excellent and beats the books. The cast is simply perfect and the TV show is funny and has more of an edge than the novels. Don't spoil the fun of watching the series by reading the books! If you're into the vampire genre and want something more grown-up than twilight, then check out Kim Harrison's books. Dead Witch Walking is the first book in the series, the main character is a witch called Rachel Morgan and both the "universe" and the characters evolve very well from book to book. It's my favourite fantasy series at the moment.

I just ordered the first one on Amazon. I'm in desperate need of quick, easy reading, so I'm hoping this will work. Now that the first season is out on DVD, I'd really like to rent it -- I've heard so many wonderful things about it.
