Yes, the lyrics came first (in French), then the music was added and eventually it was translated into English, but I wonder if it's been translated into other languages as well? We have a book of German Christmas carols with O Holy Night in it -- my great-grandmother was German and a concert pianist. I like to try O Tenenbaum in the original language, too. I'm not too into Christmas, but I can listen to Tchaikovsky any time of the year -- he's one of my absolute favorites. Tchaikovsky is my absolute favorite! I love the Nutcracker!! My favorite christmas songs are Talve Võlumaa (Winter Wonderland), O Holy Night and 12 Days of Christmas.

I worked in a grocery store where we listened to Christmas music for two months solid. I can't say I still like a lot of it. Beautiful Star of Bethlehem would have to be my favorite.

I tend to love specific songs only when sung by certain people. For example: Santa Claus is Comin' To Town - Neil Diamond (yep, no lie) O Holy Night (it's a three-way tie: Emmy Rossum, Josh Groban, Anthony Warlow) Silent Night (All Angels) Little Drummer Boy (Josh Groban)

I really like Oh Holy Night as well, and Tu Scendi dalle Stelle (which was my favorite as a child ).
