Does anyone have a pen pal?
I am very sad to think that letter writing is slowly fading away. I get so tickled when I get "real mail" in the box. You know what I mean right? Not just junk mail or bills but a letter that someone actually wrote and addressed themselves.
So, I have been thinking about getting a pen pal but I have no idea how to go about getting one!
Ideas?

I actually have had several pen pals, lately I haven't had the time anymore. But I found almost all of my pen pals from letternet.de (it's actually a magazine) and I also used ppi.searchy.net, but I haven't used it lately, so I don't know if it's a good place to find a penpal anymore. I would also love to have a real mail penpal.

I had tons of penpals when I was a kid but I don't anymore. Because of all the time it took for the letters to travel between the different countries, we had time to exchange maybe 6-8 letters a year, which made it hard to develop a true relationship. I've had much more success keeping up with penpals now that we can e-mail each other! But I understand your feelings though, I still love to get a real letter in the mail, or at least a postcard

I love getting mail, and I am writing real letters with my friend who currently lives in Germany. I also got a pen pal when I was about ten years old and we wrote for six or seven years, but at the end we grew apart. But It was fun and improved my english. On the forum of postcrossing is a section where people are seeking pen pals. And maybe from languageexchange.com could be helpful.. these aren't actual penpal sites, but..

I will have to check out those sites. There's nothing like getting a letter in the mail...... esp one from far away!

I had a lot of pen pals when I was younger too. I'm a big fan of old fashioned letter writing. However, it is very typical me to write one letter, get an answer and then never have time to write letter number two...or mail letter number two...

It was fun and improved my english. That's a good point. I should get a French penpal. But they would probably laugh at my butchered French, I can hardly speak English, haha.

Oops, that other site is mylanguageexchange.com And this is a site for you, halie, because it is a site for people who want to learn or improve some language. My sister got a really nice penpal there. She wrote (poor)spanish and english to him and he gave her some language tips. The site is based on an idea that native speakers help those who want to learn.

I love getting mail in general ... no one send letters any more or anything in the mail unless its a bill! But i love it when my friends write me letters or notes. currently me and my friends have a sort of traveling notebook between us...we see each other everyday in school but its kind of fun to read what everyone is thinking compared to what they will and can say out loud

"Where have all the pen pals gone?" I like the idea of getting something in the mail, and since I am still in school I should get a pen pal from another country who can help me with my language skills, but I thing that I have just grown use to the idea of e-mail that I don't really think I can just sit down and write a letter. It takes a long time to send letters back and forth and with e-mail I think people don't really like the wait. I can sometimes stop talking to friends from other countries via e-mail. But the idea of a letter from a nice person in another country still sounds nice.

I have a pen pal and we are already planning to publish those letters one day and get very rich then ("Selected letters of ... and...").
