I've read: The Handmaids Tale: Takes a while to get into but ultimately lives up to it's reputation The Robber Bride: Entertaining and intelligent Alias Grace: My personal favorite Cat's Eye: I loved how it portrayed the love/hate friendships amongst young girls Oryx and Crake: Beautiful in an ugly way if that makes sense The Blind Assassin: I was disappointed and rather bored with it Surfacing: Again I thought it was rather dull

I found it took awhile to get into the Handmaid's tale as well.

I've read Alias Grace, and Penelopiad. I'm not overly fond of either one. They took a long time to get into, and just when I was getting into it, the flow would be interuppted.

I'm reading Alias Grace right now and I absolutely love it. It's hard to put down. I'm really into the mysterious murder books and things.

I've read: Oryx and Crake: Beautiful in an ugly way if that makes sense I know what you mean, Lostgirl. I read Oryx and Crake this summer. I think she makes a good point though, on how everything has become industrialized and how it would/will be if we change nature too much.

I love her work. I think The Edible Woman, The Robber Bride or Alias Grace are great books to start with of hers. I met her in an airport, she was ridiculously nice, and I was all starstruck.

Oh God, she's right up there in my list of people I'd like to meet. That would be so cool and amazing, I'm so jealous! If only you had one of her books on you to get signed! That would have been funny/cool.

That would have been funny/cool. That's so true. I'll have to start carrying a Margaret Atwood book in my purse just in case whenever I am at an airport or in Toronto

Hehe, Hazy - you are now officially on Dom's "I-would-swap-lives-with-her-if-it-was-a-Freaky-Friday-movie" list! It's odd but of the 2 works of Atwood's i have read so far, neither have been novels. I've read her ... biography/writer's guide "Negotiating with the Dead" and her collection of short stories "The Tent" (cheers Dom dear!) and enjoyed them both. One day, if my internal feminist will allow it, i plan to read The Handmaiden's Tale.

I read the Blind Assassin, and it was my second Atwood novel (the first was The Edible Woman). It took me a little bit to get into it, but after I did it was incredible. I loved the unique format as well. It's now one of my favorite books.

so, I'm reading cat's eye, and I really love it! I totally know how the main character felt, since I knew these girls when we were little.. but it just never was as extreme as in the book, but sometimes it was like: Hey! that happened to me! so now I realize it really isn't that bad I'm not in contact with those girls anymore... they've never done anything good for me...
