Are you in school/are you done?
What did you study? What degree(s) did you get?
Just wondering, because I'm at the point where I'm making all of these decisions. I think I want to major in International Relations. I also want to study French and another language, maybe Russian. People tell me to take Chinese but it's intimidating! At least with Russian I could read some good literature.
Anyways...

I've finished my Communications degree (majoring in journalism) and I'm in the fourth year of my B of Laws (finish at the end of next year). I've studied a lot of different subjects but this semester I'm doing Family law, Property Law, Evidence and Administration Law.

I think it works a bit differently here in the Netherlands.. but I study Journalism, the practical way. You can study journalism at university (master), but you'll learn more about the background of journalism & communication etc. at College you are trained for 4 years in writing etc. Also we have these things called 'minors', you study something else for a year long on every Wednesday. (you can choose anything, from English to... law). Mine were Communications & multimedia Design (LOVED it!) and now i'm doing corporate journalism. which I also like.
I'm in my final year now, and I'm thinking of doing something different next. I'd like to go into the layoutdesignery thing, but I'm not sure yet.

I'm on a masters program (five years) studying English and history on my way to becoming a teacher. I'm in my third year now. The good thing about studying English is that you get to read a lot of fiction:)

I wanted to say that Russian and Chinese are both really difficult languages. I've learned Russian for 3 years (Estonia is next to Russia, so it's good to now the language) and I'm basicly nowhere. Also I wanted to ask about the school system in USA, I was thinking about maybe someday apply to some US college (I want to study English, Literature or History), but I don't know anything about it. Is getting into a public college as hard as getting into some private school? Can foreign students even apply to a US college? Actually I have a lot more quetions, but I can't think of any right now.

Still in high school too. I have no idea what I want to do. I'm pretty sure I will stay in Finland, but you never know. I have been thinking history or Finnish and liturate. I don't want to be a teacher. It's just not for me.

Is getting into a public college as hard as getting into some private school? Can foreign students even apply to a US college? Actually I have a lot more quetions, but I can't think of any right now. I'd be happy to help. There are good private schools and bad private schools. Same goes for public. For someone that lives in a state that funds a public school, that school would be easier to get into. For an international student like you, a private school would be more willing to take you as a student, because they want their students to be very diverse, and because they aren't publicly funded. To get into a US school as an international student, you should know two things: it would be expensive, and you'll need to take placement tests such as the SATs (which are sometimes available in other countries, I think) and the TOEFL (which is to prove that you're proficient in English, so I think you'd be fine). This is a forum that could help you out: talk.collegeconfidential.com/ There are lots of other international students for members. Another option is to go to an Estonian university and study abroad, which is what I'm going to do only opposite: study at an American university and then study abroad for a year or so in France.

Check it out. www.winthrop.eduWe have a pretty small school so classes are small and we have really great teachers who get to know the students. The building I live in actually houses most of the international students. (Married students/students with kids also live in this bldg) Melissa

I mean, I don't know any school besides Ivy League schools (thanks to GG) in US and ... I think I'm going to be applying to the University of Chicago, Johns Hopkins, Boston U, USC, UCSD, UCSB, CSU Long Beach and San Fransisco State... in order of preference I'm not valedictorian or anything so the last few are safeties. One thing that you might want to do is think about where you want to live, and then narrow it down from there, because many, many colleges have good or at least decent English programs. You can also look into a liberal arts college, which is smaller but focuses on the humanities.

BTW on of my classmates wants to go to Univesity of Chicago and study Psychology.
