I noticed that comment too and I think you might be right Isa. I have only one doubt: didn't Wiston say that the party would kill every opposers, in the end? (I can't recall the exact sentence now) but there might be a reason why they hadn't killed O'Brien (yet?)...

I know what you mean, the whole concept of when and why they finally kill them, after having broken them, is quite vague... even though I didn't enjoy the novel all that much, I think I might want to read it again at some point to see if I can pick up on some more details. Like I was thinking about when Mr. Charrington offered to sell the St. Clement's picture to Winston - wasn't he at this point trying to uncover the telescreen? How come he turned out to be a bad guy later on?

You're right! I totally missed that detail. I wonder why he offered to sell it, I don't think it's possible he was unaware of the telescreen. Perhaps there was a change in Mr Charrington...after that time, Winston himself said that going back to the shop where he had bought his journal was a dangerous thing. Makes any sense?
