I just thought i'd make a thread on this. My sympathies go out to the students, families and victims. It's so horrible and incomprehensible.

It's the only one I heard about. We had a school shooting last year at the college that I graduated from. I was completely shocked, I felt so safe when I went there and I would have never thought it would have happened. There has been 32 dead and around 30 injured....I think. At Dawson, which is were I went one girl died. It's such a tragedy and I don't understand how people can resort to such violence.

This is so sad. I can't imagine it happening at my school. I remember being in high school during Colombine and those other school shootings, and being scared, but I didn't think it would happen at a university. One of my classmates has a cousin that is a freshman at Va Tech and she said that they weren't warned until after 9 even though the first shooting occured at 7:30. I just wonder if it could have been stopped sooner. My prayers are def. with that community.

I've heard about it yesterday evening, I've read on a newspaper online and there were things said by italian students who are there to study. I was shocked. I can't imagine it happening where I study or at my school...it's so sad.

I'm always shocked by such events and it's terrible that things like that happen more and more frequently. I always felt safe at my own school (I guess everyone thinks it could never happen at their school), but one year ago a student threatened to run amok at our school. After all the school shootings of the last few years, the ones who heard it took it very seriously and the police came to our school and arrested him. I knew the guy and I think he was just trying to impress his fellow students, but he was known to be very violent, so there was a pretty nasty trial and a lot of parents freaked out and many students didn't attend school for some time. It's crazy what's going on at schools nowadays.

I had seen something about this yesterday morning, but didn't really look into it until yesterday at work (afternoon). I was really shocked too. I'm appalled that one person was shot at 7.30am and then at 9.26am the university emailed out to the students about the shooting which started again a few minutes after that. I can't believe this stuff happens. 33 people in total! I remembered the Columbine incident too, but I was only in 5th grade (12 years old) when that happened. Then there was that Amish school just within this past year. What is wrong with the world today?! I feel safe at my school, and even safer that I'm only there a few hours a day since I live at home.

I don't understand how they didn't think to cancel classes after two students were shot. At my school last year there was an incident where a security guard noticed a large black bag that looked like it had a gun in it. The police were called right away, students and staff were to be locked in the classes....and it turned out to be a false alarm, it was only martial arts equipment. however, the school cancelled classes, canceled the shuttle bus that goes in between campus's, and the police were there within minutes. How can they keep the students there after there was a shooting?

They believed it was domestic violence and the shooter had fled the campus. Which still means they should've taken more precautions after because they "believed" this is what had happened. If someone was shot on campus more security should've been taken than they did.
