Every year in my school, we are required to do one huge project in our english classes. This year my teacher gave us a list of books that we are to choose one and write a paper on and how it applies to the modernist movement. I am trying to figure out which one of these books to read. Could you please give me some suggestions or what you thought of any of these books?
This side of Paradise: F. Scott Fitzgerald O Pioneers!: Willa Cather A Farewell to Arms: Ernest Hemingway For Whom the Bell Tolls: Ernest Hemingway East of Eden: John Steinbeck The Pearl AND The Red Pony: John Steinbeck Native Son: Richard Wright The Sound and the Fury: William Faulkner Death of a Salesman: Arthur Miller
I have just started to do some research on these books and they are quite long. It is due on March 11, and I don't read school books very fast. I am considering O Pioneers! because I was the biggest fan of the Little House books and the American Girl Kirsten when I was little.
Thanks!

East of Eden and Native Son are both amazing books. I'd choose Native Son.

I would avoid the Hemingway unless you already know for sure you are a Hemingway fan. A school project would be an unfortunate way to find out reading his work makes you scream.

Well I love Hemingway so I would choose one of his and A Farewell to Arms is the better of the two on the list. Otherwise I'd go with Native Son or The Sound and the Fury. Native Son is a bit easier than Faulkner.

I loved Native Son, I'd choose that one. East of Eden is also a good choice. I wasn't, however, a big fan of Hemingway or Death of a Salesman

I actually like Arthur Miller's plays, but I never read Death of a Salesman.

Thanks for the advice! I'm now debating between O Pioneers! and East of Eden, which is basically a choice over which is more fun for me or more practical, as one of them can help me with my history project too
