I'm reading Jane Eyre and I have a question that maybe someone could help me with. Why does Mr. Rochester sometimes call her "Janet"?

I remember thinking it was a bit odd when I read it but just assuming it was some kind of pet name.

I have a translated edition of Jane Eyre and I remember I noticed that, but I just thought it was a sort of pet name too.

Like the others, I thought it was a sort of pet name. A term of endearment, perhaps? I do agree with the others and thing it's a little odd, but I just figured it was his name for her.

I think it was a pet name too.
A little bit like how George said Maryanna and Annamaria to his sisters in the Other Boleyn Girl

That's funny I remember him calling them that, but until seeing the nicknames side by side I never noticed that they were practically the same two names put together in different orders. Weird! It's like they're the same person almost. I guess that reflects all their competition and jealously and the both sleeping with the King thing.

Wow that's pretty weird. Janet seems like such a mod name!
