Yep, looks like you guys can put Atonement on your Christmas wishlist! I don't think it'll be a good idea to start the discussion during the Holidays as most of us will be busy with family reunions and so on, so I'll try to put up a schedule for January as soon as possible. And for those who were interested in reading 1984, the good news is that since it's sort of a modern classic, you can nominate it again for the next classic book club book

Okay, I'll put it on my list. I'll probably read it all over break and just be read to discuss it. I'm not sure how much reading I'm going to have for next semester's classes, so I don't want to put too much pressure on myself.

Okay, I bought my copy today and I split it up into sections I thought we could use. They're long sections, 90ish pages each, but it's not too bad. I think we could split it and just read the 3 parts and do it that way, but Part 1 is twice as long as the others. So, if we want to do it that way, splitting up Part 1, I came up with:
Section 1-Part 1 Chapters 1-8 (the first half of Part 1) Section 2-Part 1 Chapter 9-14 (the second half of Part 1) Section 3-Part 2 (all of it) Section 4-Part 3 (all of it)
Of course, this is just a suggestion...

I voted for Water for Elephants, by Sara Gruen !!!! sounds good here is what it is about:
Jacob Jankowski, 90 years old and living in a nursing home, tells how, orphaned and penniless during the Great Depression, he became an animal trainer in a circus. In his days with the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth, he falls in love with the beautiful performer Marlena--and also with the delightful Rosie the elephant.

I'm keen for Atonement. But I think that 1984 is a good book to perhaps keep in mind for the next poll, really I would probably fit it into the classics rather than the modern contemporary though in keeping with the way we classified the bell jar as a classic. I think 1984 would make for a really interesting discussion because of all its political themes.
