Hi guys. I really need to borrow some of your expansive literary brains for a bit. I need to pick some texts (aside from poetry) relating to an imaginative journey. This can be anything from a picture book to a movie or a short story. It's really difficult to find one which hasn't been used to death, including: - Where The Wild Things Are (Picture Book) - Alice In Wonderland (book/movie) - The Wizard of Oz (movie) - Imagine by John Lennon Also, I've been told that The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Alan Poe and The Happy Prince by Oscar Wilde are imaginative journeys, but I can't see how they are. Does anybody think this as well? Any help is appreciated!

I had to do the journey component of the HSC as well, but I did physical journeys, I will have a bit of a think of something for an imaginative journey for you.

Ok I had a bit of a think and a bit of a look on www.boredofstudies.orgThe Life of Pi was one someone was using, they said: although i found heaps of information on the book itself, i found that linking it to journeys could only be done through my own knowledge of the text. if its any help, although probably not,i talked about how pi uses his imagination to escape the turmoil of his experience in the lifeboat. i also mention how characters are removed from their own context (thus provoking we the responders to consider our own), eg. pi leaving india for canada, but ending up in a lifeboat with 'animals', then an island etc (the whole shipwreck and island experience relates so well to the tempest ),he learned lessons about humanity, himself and the world, such as forgiveness... i talked about how richard parker and pi develop a complex relationship of understanding ('when your life has been given a reprieve, its impossible not to feel some warmth to the person to whom you owe that reprieve'...or something very similar),thus expanding pi's view of himself and the world (rubric...lol!).i did of course neglect to mention that pi kills and eats richard parker in the 'realistic' version of events...
Also I guess how you don't know which version of events happens and whether he made up the whole thing or not, have a bit of a look at the life of pi book discussion thread. Perhaps in terms of movies Pans Labyrinth or The Princess Bride might work (in that the boy's being read the book and the action sort of happens in his imagination while he hears it). I think Pan's Labyrinth could be used really well. Also maybe Fight Club (book or movie) Also you can do song lyrics so someone on that forum suggested Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds by the Beatles. Good luck

You're welcome, any time What other advanced English components are you doing? I did Blade Runner/ Brave New World, Physical Journeys, King Lear and something else... forget what. The Life of Pi and Fight Club will be great to do because they're such good books (and movie if you do the movie).

I'm doing - Imaginative Journey (set text is poetry by Coleridge) - Transformations (Hamlet / Rosencrantz & Guildenstern) - Critical Study of Texts (Cloudstreet by Tim Winton) - Telling The Truth (the TV show Frontline)
I think they're all pretty good to study. They seem very "classic", even Frontline cos it's hilarious. There's probably not a lot of notes for Cloudstreet, but it'll probably pan out okay.

Another year 12 Aussie student! Well I've used so far: - The Microsoft promotional campaign "Your Potential. Our Passion" - The Princess Bride (the movie) - 'And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street' and 'Oh, The Places You'll Go!" by Dr. Seuss - an episode of Heroes called "Out Of Time" Also, it's always fine to look at book/DVD covers or film flyers. I've used a film flyer for Motorcycle Diaries even though it's a physical journey based movie. But it works really well with imaginative too. And I've used the book cover of "Songman" by Allan Baillie even though that's physical too. I haven't read "Five People You Meet it Heaven" but it's on my to-be-read list. Does it tie in well with imaginative journeys?

My prescribed text is Selected Poems by S.T. Coleridge. He's alright I think - I haven't actually gotten to the stage where I hate the journeys topic just yet. The Tempest sounds a lot more fun than Coleridge! Have you started assessments yet? Ours started this Tuesday, though I know of schools which don't start it until week ten and then finish in term one of next year. So unfair...

I guess the essay would have been good preparation for the HSC, but it usually takes me about an hour to write one! Like... I've always done my short answer questions in less than 45 minutes so I can spend more time on my essay. My arm hurt a lot afterwards and my writing was beyond illegible . Hopefully it'll turn out ok. I do Adv. English, Ext. 2 Maths, Chemistry, Senior Science and Biology. I had my Chemistry and Ext. 1 Maths exam today. I did pretty well in the Maths one, but Chemistry sucked so bad. But then, everyone found it hard so it might not be so horrible? I still feel really miserable though. After Friday it's over!! I don't know how these holidays are going to be. It's like... we HAVE to study during the 6 week holiday, but you hafta go out too.
