We probably won't start discussing a new book until after the Holidays, but I thought it would be a good idea to pick one right now so you can put it on your Christmas wish list So send us your suggestions for a contemporary novel!

Maybe I shouldn't suggest since I haven't been able to take part in the last two discussions, but I think next semester will be better. So here are the books that I want to read and would love to discuss with you lovely people:
- The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Klay - A Thousand Splendid Suns - The History of Love - The Memory Keeper's Daughter - Water for Elephants
Question: are they supposed to be from the old wb list? Because then I need to change my suggestions.

Nope, they don't have to be from the WB list - they don't even have to be from our own book list

I'd really like to read 1984 by George Orwell, and also Beloved by Toni Morrison.

I would also like to discuss What is the What. I think there's a lot of depth to it that would make for excellent discussion.
I love (or want to read) many of the books suggested so far, but my problem with contemporary books is that I usually don't like disussing most of them - most seem to stand on their own well and make for good private reading.
I would also love to discuss The Book Thief. It was incredible, and I'd love to re-read it. I think there's a lot we could discuss - the unique narrator, the transitions through time, and how it compares to other fiction books about the holocaust.

My only comments on the nominations so far is that while I loved the book thief and special topics they might be a little long for discussion? Discussion on longer books can be a little hard to sustain but if a lot of people are up for them we could make it work. I haven't read a lot of the others mentioned so all are good for me.

Most of the books that have been listed sound great to me! I would really like to read A Thousand Splendid Suns. I've already rean Peony in Love and I think it would be a really interesting work to discuss, and I wouldn't mind getting the book to refresh my memory (although I probably wouldn't read it again since I just read it a month ago).
