Much Ado About Nothing King Lear (truly staggering especially if you ever see it at the RSC) A Doll's House The Importance of Being Earnest Waiting for Godot
(total English Lit student choices, but hey they're classics for a reason)

Do you know if Beckett wrote Waiting for Godot in French or in English first? I'd like to read it in it's original version, heard nothing but good things about it!

Do you know if Beckett wrote Waiting for Godot in French or in English first? I'd like to read it in it's original version, heard nothing but good things about it! I had a funny feeling it was French so I wikipedia'd it: "Waiting for Godot (French: En attendant Godot), subtitled A Tragicomedy in Two Acts, is an absurdist play by Samuel Beckett, written in the late 1940s and first published in 1952. Beckett originally wrote the play in French, his second language, and translated it into English in 1954." That probably adds to the strange separateness of the language - when something is translated and translated back it often sounds detached but with a restricted and lexically economical play it would sound even more strange. Interesting. Hark at me and my lit crit (ignore, former lit geek here)

I haven't read too many plays before, but my two favorites would have to be The Crucible and A Dolls House.

I think my favorites would have to be: Sizwe Bansi is dead Pygmailion The Spanish Flie A Midsummer Night's Dream A Doll's House In high school we had to read and analyse A Doll's House in so many ways, but it was interesting, and with that play Ibsen created a new area in theater didn't he?

I loved Nathan the wise and The Crucible... I'm not a Shakespeare Fan, and I didn't enjoy Macbeth at at all, which we had to read for English Class.

King Lear however, is amazing. If you don't fancy reading it, try to find a DVD version - RSC or BBC are the best ones
