Ok so Jefie and I have been talking and we think that this idea has some potential and were wondering what you guys think.
A lot of people have expressed how much they don't want the new book to be spoiled for them before they read it and how they might stay offline until they do etc. We were thinking as a solution to this while still enabling people to discuss the book could be a temporary sub board dedicated to the new hp book which will have specific threads for each section of the book. Discussion in each thread will be limited to the said section. That way you don't go into the thread until you've read that part and you can discuss it without worrying about spoiling the book kinda thing.
Obviously we will have to heavily monitor the threads so that no one accidentally or on purpose causes trouble.
Also once discussion on the threads has subsided we will probably transcribe all of them onto one thread in the book discussions board, which can then be added to by people late to reading the book.
Opinions, suggestions, thoughts?

Sounds good to me, although it seems like lots of work for you guys. I won´t just keep away from the book club, I´ll skim the thread titles and ignore anything HP

I agree with dorothy, it sounds very good but I'm afraid that it means so much work for you. Anyway I don't know how much my opinion could count, I've finally decided to wait for the italian edition of HP, which will probably come out nearly 6 months later, because some of my friends and my cousins, who are all HP's fans, said that they won't talk to me until they're done with HP in italian if I read it in english ...they're very afraid I would spoil them, ;D and I'm sure I won't be able to say nothing. ;D (I have to admit I had spolied a bit when HP5 came out...) ;D That means I will be late on reading HP7 but, since I can add post later, it sounds as a good idea to me. I know it will be hard staying away from HP websites and especially from your discussion.

maybe you or we (whichever) could include threads on the previous 7 books that way people who are re-reading the books can write various theories and/or clues they have for book seven.

It sounds like a good idea - a great way for things to not get spoiled. However, I am planning on doing absolutely nothing until I finish the book, so I don't think I'll be doing much posting. This is not because I'm worried about spoilers, but just that I will be so ansy to read it, I won't do anything else!

It's a very good, sensible and organised concept Dom and Jefie *salute* but again i does sound like lots of work. I'd offer to help out as a temp mod during this time but in all honesty, i'll probably be avoiding the net for about 2 days (i did last time) - like zelda, simply because i'll be spending as many minutes possible reading. But still, for those wishing to discuss it and not have things leaked, it sounds like a good way to go about it.

As some of you might have noticed, there is now a new sub-board (just above the book discussion one) that's dedicated to Harry Potter discussions. We thought sagedautum's suggestion was excellent, so feel free to create threads for all the previous books, and share ideas about what might happen in the last HP book based on the clues you've gathered so far!

I agree with most of the others. It sounds like a lot of work for both you and Jefie, and then I'd feel a bit bad if you went through all the trouble and didn't even use it. Like zelda, I'm planning on not really doing much besides reading the book, so I probably won't post much during the reading. And I will take it as my own fault if I stumble across an accidental slip or something online because I know it will probably happen anyways

Yes, ditto to that for me aswell. It's like the time i purposefully turned a newspaper towards my mirror because it had printed spoilers for book 6 backwards, if you cared to read them. I did and instantly regretted it! How very very foolish of me. But thankyou to Dom, Jefie and indeed Sagedautum for creating and suggesting this notion. Good stuff!

I think it is a good idea, but I will also be one of those people that doesn't do anything else until I've finished.

Ummm.... I wasn't actually sure where to post this and I feel like I'm missing something but what happened to the Harry Potter Forum/Thread thingy??? Dom took it down because it looked like no one was going to use it, would you like us to put it back so you can discuss the old books?

I'm sorry it was taken down - i would have been happy to create some threads but i'm so bloomin' clueless and forgetful, it never occurred to me! I need to remind myself to come on here more often, honestly! *sorry, self scolding will cease*
