Same for me, pageturner. I haven't read anything yet and I would like to but I don't know what start with, so I'd be very glad to hear any suggestions.

I have checked on library's website to see which books by Dawn Powell they have. Here's what I've found:
Angels on toast Turn, magic wheel The Golden Spur A time to be born
Has anyone read them? What do you think is the best to start with?

I post here instead of "The Portable Dorothy Parker" thread, hope it's not too confusing. You guys should read "The Wicked Pavilion" by Dawn Powell. Very much like Dorothy Parker, but less depressing. I find it so bizarre to hear that you guys can't find copies at your book stores, because everytime I go into mine, there's always at least one copy. Which means no one is reading her. Shame. I saw it at bookstore today (it has a totally different title in Italian..), I looked through the first story and I liked it, I'm seriously thinking about buying it.

I would say if you can find anything by her at a library, borrow it, she's such an interesting writer. Barnes and Noble usually has like one copy of one book by her, but you know, they'll order anything for you and it'll come in a week.
