"Mr and Mrs Dursley, of Number 4 Privet Drive were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thankyou very much" - HP and the Philosophers/Sorcerers Stone Best misleading opening line i've read so far!

"Have you ever tasted a Whitstable Oyster" from Tipping the Velvet is pretty good.

"It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife." - Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen nice one! the only one that I can remember off the top of my head is: "Mr. and Mrs. Dursley of Number Four, Privet Drive were proud to say that they were perfeclty normal, thank you very much." ;D

I think it means that each member of the Book Club enjoys the best one aspect of Jane Austen, as a person and as a writer, so (I hope to remember correctly) there's someone who loves Jane's wit and someone else admires her for writing in a busy room and sharing her works with family, and so on.. Makes any sense??

How do you like this line about a love story, not a sappy or romance novel type love story, but one that's more real:
"However sentimental it may sound, it was love at first sight—at least for me."
