That would be so much work but I´d love to see the outcome.

Haha, I know it would be hard. Especially because books are different (first and third person sometimes) so that could be hard to arrange. But it would be interesting lol First I have to acquire all the first lines from books I've read (I have about half lol)
Anyways...this would grab my attention: "I am staring into the face of a cobra." ~A Great and Terrible Beauty

i stumbled across this site today people.cornell.edu/pages/jad22/it has different categories that you go into and there are lots of first lines from books. you can guess what book it's from and then check your answer. it was just kinda fun to see how many i recognized. and it also got me interested in some books that have amazing first lines.

Definitely a cool site!
"Afterward, he tried to reduce it to abstract terms, an accident in a world of accidents, the collision of opposing forces - the bumper of his car and the frail scrambling hunched-over form of a dark little man with a wild look in his eye - but he wasn't very succesful." (The Tortilla Curtain by T.C. Boyle)

I loved all the ones you guys have mentioned already, but I really love this one from Mrs Dalloway: Mrs Dalloway said that she would buy the flowers herself. Haha, it's so simple and to the point. Pure perfection.

Another pretty simple, from "A moveable feast": Then there was the bad weather.First line from "The baron in the trees" by Italo Calvino: It was on the fifteenth of June, 1767, that Cosimo Rovasco di Rondò, my brother, sat among us for the last time. And it might have been today, I remember it so clearlyI love many of the quote you have already mentioned.

I just finished A Farewell to Arms so:
"In the late summer of that year we lived in a house in a village that looked across the river and the plain to the mountains." (Hemingway 1).

I'll add another pretty obvious one. Anna Karenina: "Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way." I love that one too! i've borrowed that book from the library so many times, and i decided it was time to own it!

The first line from Special Topics in Calamity Physics is "Before I tell you about Hannah Schneider's death, I'll tell you about my mother's."
